WPL 2025: Sciver-Brunt’s Heroics Propel MI to 164 while Delhi Bowlers Rally Late

Natalie Sciver-Brunt scored a remarkable unbeaten 75, while Harmanpreet Kaur added an aggressive 42. However, the Mumbai Indians were bowled out for 164 in just 19.1 overs by the Delhi Capitals in the second match of Women’s Premier League season 3 at the Kotambi Stadium on Saturday.
Despite a strong effort in the middle overs, the Mumbai Indians suffered from a series of quick wickets. Annabel Sutherland (3.1-0-34-3) and Shikha Pandey (4-0-14-2) led the impressive bowling performance for Delhi.
—
Choosing to bowl first, the Delhi Capitals struck early as Shikha Pandey dismissed Hayley Matthews for a duck on just her second ball. The delivery swung sharply to catch the edge of Matthews’ bat, with Meg Lanning taking a sharp catch at slip. Yastika Bhatia and Natalie Sciver-Brunt looked to stabilize the innings, but runs came slowly. Nevertheless, Alice Capsey’s entry in the second over proved costly as Miami’s batters took advantage of some loose deliveries, with Yastika and Sciver-Brunt hitting important boundaries.
—
Shikha Pandey returned to dismiss Yastika Bhatia (11 off 9) in her third over as the left-hander misplayed a shot and lost her wicket. By this point, Mumbai was struggling at 34 for 2. However, Harmanpreet Kaur’s presence invigorated the team, and Sciver-Brunt showcased her creativity with a reverse sweep off Minnu Mani for four, elevating Mumbai to 41 for 2 at the end of the Powerplay.
The partnership between Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet flourished, contributing 73 runs and shifting the momentum decisively. The introduction of Radha Yadav only worsened Delhi’s plight, as Sciver-Brunt began with a powerful boundary followed by Harmanpreet slicing a shot over point. A no-ball added to Delhi’s woes, allowing Harmanpreet to hit a six over extra cover on the free hit.
Harmanpreet continued to attack Annabel Sutherland, hitting two cuts for boundaries and then smashing a six over mid-wicket. However, her innings of 42 off 22 balls ended when she mis-hit a shot towards deep backward point, where Niki Prasad took a well-judged catch. With the captain gone, Mumbai struggled to build partnerships, as Amelia Kerr (9 off 9) was run out after a ricochet off Minnu Mani’s hand broke the stumps as Kerr was out of her crease.
Sajeevan Sajana added just one run before edging a ball from Sutherland to wicketkeeper Sarah Bryce. Amanjot Kaur (7 off 7) showed promise with a boundary off Capsey but was dismissed shortly after trying to charge down the pitch.
Despite the fall of wickets around her, Sciver-Brunt reached a well-earned fifty with a beautiful cover drive and continued to find boundaries, dispatching a wide delivery down the ground. Unfortunately, she ran out of partners as wickets continued to tumble.
The last two overs saw a complete collapse for MI. Shafali Verma’s excellent throw led to the run-out of Jintimani Kalita for just 1 run off 1 ball. Moments later, a fingertip from Sutherland sent a shot from Sciver-Brunt into the hands of Shikha Pandey, who swiftly ran out Shabnim Ismail before she could face a ball. Sutherland rounded off the innings in the 19th over, clean bowling Saika Ishaque for a duck, leaving MI all out for 164 with five balls remaining.
Despite Sciver-Brunt’s commendable 80 off 59 balls, Delhi Capitals finished strong, claiming six wickets for just 35 runs, preventing Mumbai from fully capitalizing on their promising middle phase.
Brief scores:
Mumbai Indians: 164 all out in 19.1 overs (Nat Sciver-Brunt 80 not out, Harmanpreet Kaur 42; Annabel Sutherland 3-34, Shikha Pandey 2-14) vs Delhi Capitals

Departing Goodison Park is bittersweet, but Everton is heading towards a brighter future, claims Moyes.

Everton’s head coach, David Moyes, reflected on the significant moment in the club’s history as they prepare to play their final match at Goodison Park this Sunday. The Toffees will face already-relegated Southampton in what is expected to be an emotional farewell for fans, as the Men’s Senior Team gears up to transition to their new world-class waterfront stadium for the 2025/26 season.
Everton’s journey began at Anfield, now home to city rivals Liverpool. A rental dispute led to their move to Goodison Park in 1892, where they have spent the last 133 years.
—
Moyes noted the many legends who have passed through the club, emphasizing that he will be the one to close the door behind him. “There are many individuals with greater knowledge and wisdom about Everton and Goodison Park than I possess. The history, the stories, the great managers, and players—all of that is rich here. I’m simply the one who will close the door as I leave,” he remarked.
—
Moyes expressed the bittersweet nature of the transition: “It will be sad, but we are moving towards a brighter and better future. I believe all Evertonians have eagerly awaited this moment. The new stadium is much anticipated. While it will be an emotional day, I need to keep the players focused on the match,” he stated during the pre-game press conference.
He also confirmed that Seamus Coleman will remain with Everton next season, regardless of the circumstances, and revealed that Jake O’Brien is fit and available for the club’s last Premier League match at Goodison Park. O’Brien is back after missing the recent win against Fulham due to injury, while James Tarkowski (hamstring), Jesper Lindstrom (hernia), and Orel Mangala (knee) will miss the final home game of the season.
Addressing the possibility of Coleman captaining the team for Goodison’s last Premier League match, Moyes commented, “That is something I’m considering. What I can say is that Sunday’s game is a priority for us, and we’ll do our utmost to prepare effectively and perform at our best.”
“Seamus will definitely be with us next season. His presence is vital; his leadership and influence in the dressing room are immensely strong, and it would be wrong to lose him. Seamus will be here, one way or another,” he confirmed.
