WPL 2025: Hayley’s Three Wickets Propel MI to 47-Run Victory Over GG, Setting Up Final Showdown with DC

Hayley Matthews made a significant impact, scoring 77 runs and taking 3 wickets for 31 runs, as the Mumbai Indians secured a place in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 final against the Delhi Capitals. This victory came after they defeated the Gujarat Giants by 47 runs in the Eliminator match held at Brabourne Stadium on Thursday.

Matthews’ impressive performance was supported by strong contributions from Nat Sciver-Brunt, who also scored 77 runs, and captain Harmanpreet Kaur, whose explosive knock of 36 helped MI reach a formidable total of 213/4. In response, the West Indies captain excelled with her off-spin bowling, claiming three wickets as the Giants were all out for 166 in just 19.2 overs.

Amelia Kerr also played a vital role, taking two wickets, alongside Nat and Shabnim Ismail, as MI secured their spot in the finals against DC at the same venue on Saturday.

Shabnim Ismail initiated the breakthrough for Mumbai by catching Beth Mooney’s outside edge at first slip, while Harleen Deol and Danielle Gibson managed five boundaries between them before Deol was run out due to a precise throw from Sanskriti Gupta and Yastika Bhatia.

Hayley’s pivotal moment came when she bowled Asheigh Gardner for just eight runs, and although Danielle and Phoebe Litchfield managed some boundaries, it wasn’t enough to ease the mounting pressure on the Giants.

Amanjot Kaur’s strong throw from deep mid-wicket led to Danielle being run out for 34 runs, following which Phoebe was stumped for 31 after missing a googly from Amelia. A mix-up on the pitch resulted in Kashvee Gautam being run out, while Bharti Fulmali and Simran Shaikh rallied briefly with some boundaries before Hayley knocked out Fulmali’s off-stump.

From this point, Amelia, Nat, and Hayley each claimed a wicket, ensuring MI’s place in their second WPL final while maintaining their impeccable record against GG in front of a home crowd, including their team owners and IPL counterparts.

IPL 2026 : In a dramatic IPL 2026 clash, Royal Challengers Bengaluru player Tim David has landed in controversy for allegedly making an obscene gesture after his team’s thrilling win against Mumbai Indians.

The incident took place during the 54th match of the Indian Premier League in Raipur. Batting first, Mumbai Indians scored 167 runs in 20 overs and set a competitive target for RCB.

While chasing the target, Royal Challengers Bengaluru needed 15 runs in the final over. The match went down to the last ball, where RCB required two runs for victory. Rasikh Dar helped the team secure a thrilling win in the final delivery.

Soon after the victory, Tim David, who was in the dugout, was seen allegedly showing his middle finger towards the Mumbai Indians camp during the celebrations. The video of the incident quickly went viral on social media and triggered criticism from cricket fans.

Reports suggest that match officials could take disciplinary action against the Australian batter. Under the ICC Code of Conduct, obscene or offensive gestures are considered a serious offence.

Sports: Lucknow Super Giants’ captain Rishabh Pant faced criticism after a failed Super Over decision against Kolkata Knight Riders. LSG sent Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram to bat, with Pooran on strike against Sunil Narine.

Pooran was bowled on the first ball, leading to heavy criticism from fans. Many questioned the decision, especially because Narine had earlier troubled Pooran in a past Super Over.

LSG coach Justin Langer defended the move. He said the team trusted Pooran as he has faced Narine many times and has a strong record against him. He added that teams must back their best players even in difficult moments.

Langer also said Pooran is one of the best T20 players in recent years but is currently low on confidence. He assured that the team is working hard to help him regain form
