WPL 2025: Harleen’s Advice to Beth Mooney – “Just Close Your Eyes and Run”

Published

on

Harleen Deol played a pivotal role in the Gujarat Giants’ five-wicket triumph over the Delhi Capitals, scoring 70 runs off 49 balls and enabling Beth Mooney, Deandra Dottin, and captain Ashleigh Gardner to exhibit their explosive batting skills.

Chasing a target of 178, the Giants found themselves in a precarious position as they approached the final overs following a sluggish start, but a spirited performance by Dottin paved the way for the second-highest successful chase of the season.

Harleen noted that collaborating with Beth, who scored 44 runs and shared an 85-run partnership for the second wicket, made batting easier. She emphasized the significance of rotating the strike effectively.

“I aimed to bat until the end, knowing we had several big hitters following me. When you partner with Beth, it’s quite simple; she hits boundaries and takes singles. You just need to stay alert as she’s very quick to run, and you can close your eyes and go. With other power hitters like Dottin, taking a single to get them on strike is key,” Harleen said after earning her first Player of the Match award.

With just 13 runs needed off the last seven balls, 21-year-old Kashvee Gautam hit a six off purple cap holder Shikha Pandey to bring the target within reach. Harleen shared the advice she gave to the young talent.

“I know Kashvee is excellent at hitting sixes, and I told her that Shikha was bowling straight and the ball was keeping a bit low. I advised her to close her eyes and swing down the ground. When your team is winning and you’re scoring runs, it’s simply what you dream of. I couldn’t ask for anything more,” she reflected.

This victory has brought the Gujarat Giants closer to a playoff spot. They need to win their last league match to secure a place in the playoffs for the first time in the tournament’s history, whereas the UP Warriorz have been eliminated from the race.
