Hostel Owner’s Alert Helps Expose Massive NEET 2026 Paper Leak
Jaipur: A hostel owner in Rajasthan’s Sikar played a key role in exposing the alleged NEET UG 2026 paper leak, which eventually led to the cancellation of the examination and a CBI investigation across several states.
According to sources, the incident began on the night of May 2, just hours before the NEET examination scheduled for May 3. An MBBS student from Sikar, currently studying in Kerala, received a “guess paper” in PDF format from a friend. Since he was already pursuing medical studies, he forwarded the document to his father, who runs a hostel for coaching students in Sikar.
The student informed his father that the paper might help hostel students appearing for the examination. The next morning, the hostel owner tried to share the material with four girls staying at the hostel, but they had already left for their examination centre.
Out of curiosity, the hostel owner later shared the paper with a chemistry teacher known to him. After comparing it with the actual NEET question paper, the teacher found that 45 out of 108 chemistry questions matched exactly.
The matter became more serious when a biology teacher checked the remaining questions and discovered that 90 out of 204 biology questions were also identical to the actual exam paper. In total, 135 questions reportedly matched the original examination paper.
Shocked by the findings, the hostel owner and the teachers approached the local police in Sikar. However, police allegedly refused to register a case, questioning why the complaint was filed after the examination had ended.
Despite the setback, the hostel owner and the chemistry teacher sent an email complaint to the National Testing Agency (NTA). Four days later, the NTA took the matter seriously and informed the Intelligence Bureau. On May 8, the Rajasthan Special Operations Group (SOG) was asked to investigate the case.
Sources said the SOG verified the sequence of events through phone records and WhatsApp messages linked to the hostel owner.
During the investigation, officials uncovered a wider network connected to the paper leak. The probe led investigators to Jamwaramgarh near Jaipur, where two brothers were allegedly involved in selling the leaked paper to contacts in Sikar.
Police questioning later revealed links to a first-year Ayurveda student in Haryana, who is suspected of distributing the paper for large amounts of money to NEET aspirants in Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The investigation further reached Maharashtra, where the Haryana student allegedly received the leaked paper from a student in Nashik identified as Shubham Khairnar. Police reportedly recovered a physical copy of the leaked “guess paper” from him.
Following the revelations, the National Testing Agency on Tuesday cancelled the NEET UG 2026 examination. The agency announced that the exam will be conducted again on revised dates, which will be announced separately.
The NTA also clarified that candidates will not be required to register again or pay any additional fee, and all existing applications will remain valid.
