Wild Elephant Attack Damages Auto-Rickshaw; Belthangady

Belthangady: A wild elephant attacked and badly damaged an auto-rickshaw in a shocking incident that took place at Boliyar near Dharmasthala on Friday morning.

A resident of Boliyar, Dinesh was driving his auto-rickshaw from his home towards Dharmasthala when the incident occurred. As he approached a spot near his house, a wild elephant suddenly appeared in the middle of the road. Alarmed by the sight, Dinesh panicked and immediately abandoned the rickshaw, running to safety and narrowly escaping danger.

However, the elephant attacked the unattended rickshaw, damaged it severely, and pushed it into a nearby drain. Witnessing this, Dinesh was so shocked that he fainted on the spot.
The sound of the elephant attacking the vehicle was heard by Dinesh’s wife and nearby residents, who rushed to the scene. By the time they arrived, the elephant had retreated back into the forest.

Officials from the Forest Department and the local Gram Panchayat visited the site and conducted an inspection.

Mangaluru: Popular Instagram reels creator Asha Pandit has passed away in Mangaluru. She was widely known for her unique and unconventional reels. She was a resident of Naguri and had gained significant popularity on social media.

According to sources, Asha Pandit suffered a heart attack. On Wednesday night, she reportedly experienced vomiting and sudden health complications. She collapsed in the courtyard of her house. She was rushed to the hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Mangaluru: Fr Leo D’Souza SJ, former Rector and Principal of St Aloysius College, passed away on Tuesday.He was 93 years old.He breathed his last at Father Muller’s Hospital in Mangaluru.

Fr Leo D’Souza was a renowned Jesuit priest and scientist.He was internationally recognized for his work as a botanist.He published several research papers in reputed international journals.

Fr Leo D’Souza was born in Mangaluru.He completed his early education at St Aloysius institutions.He maintained a close association with the institution throughout his life.

He served as the Principal of St Aloysius College.Later, he served as the Rector of St Aloysius College institutions in Mangaluru.He made significant contributions to higher education and academic leadership.

Fr Leo D’Souza pursued his PhD studies at the prestigious Max Planck Institute in Germany.He established the Applied Biology Laboratory at St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru.His efforts greatly strengthened scientific research at the institution.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to higher education and spiritual leadership, he was honoured last year.In July, he received the prestigious Canisius Medal.
