Why Ed Sheeran Shields His Children from the Spotlight

Ed Sheeran, one of the world’s biggest musical icons, fiercely protects the privacy of his family, especially his daughters, Lyra and Jupiter. During a heartfelt discussion on ‘The Louis Theroux Podcast’, the 34-year-old singer shared his reasons for keeping his children out of the public spotlight.

“I’m extremely private when it comes to photos of my children,” Ed revealed. He explained that even simple outings, like going to the park or the zoo, can quickly become uncomfortable due to unwanted attention. “I can’t really take them anywhere without someone trying to film them,” he lamented.

These situations often make him miss the ordinary experiences that many parents take for granted. “Sometimes I genuinely mourn the simple joys of life. I wish I could push my child on a swing in a park without it feeling strange,” he expressed.

For Sheeran, the core issue is straightforward: his children did not choose a life of fame. “People say, ‘That’s the trade-off,’ but my kids never signed up for this,” he stressed.

Despite his best efforts, Sheeran acknowledges that it’s challenging to keep his kids entirely out of the limelight. Fame often finds him, as he recounted an experience flying home on a budget airline, Ryanair, after a concert in Italy, only to be surrounded by fans.

“I enjoy nature; I like being around trees,” he said, explaining his preference for avoiding private jets. “I’m not perfect. There are occasional private flights during intense promotional tours, but I try to keep that to a minimum.”

Reflecting on his career, Sheeran mentioned that he reached his peak with his 2017 album ‘Divide,’ but he no longer seeks that same level of success. “I feel like I hit my peak with ‘Divide’ and now I’m coasting,” he noted. Interestingly, those high times weren’t his happiest. “That level of fame was actually my unhappiest time. I find more contentment with the balance I have now.”

The pressure of constant public attention has sometimes made him feel trapped. “It feels like being a zoo animal,” he told ‘The Sun’. “I don’t mean to complain — I recognize I have a great job and life. But I just want to escape that feeling.”
