The highly anticipated period drama ‘Chhaava’ featuring Vicky Kaushal is set to premiere tomorrow, February 14. With impressive pre-sale figures, the film is poised to become one of the first major releases of 2025. As it prepares for its theatrical debut, the movie, which tells the story of Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, is attracting predictions from trade analysts regarding its box office performance. Despite facing certain challenges, the initial week appears promising, indicating a potentially successful run.

According to Sacnilk, ‘Chhaava’ has already amassed ₹8.79 crores gross from pre-release ticket sales within the domestic market. Including block bookings, the total reaches ₹11.29 crores, with advance bookings surpassing 3.07 lakh tickets. Notably, approximately 2 lakh tickets were sold within the first 48 hours of the advance booking window, suggesting a robust opening.

In an interview with PTI, trade analyst Taran Adarsh discussed the competition between ‘Chhaava’ and ‘Captain America: Brave New World.’ He expressed greater excitement for ‘Chhaava,’ highlighting its basis in the life story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and the involvement of Vicky Kaushal, Maddock Films, and director Laxman Utekar, who has a strong track record. Adarsh anticipates that the film could achieve an opening collection of ₹25-30 crores nett or possibly more based on advance ticket sales.

Furthermore, Ramesh Bala, a trade expert, and theatre owner Vishek Chauhan shared insights on box office expectations and potential obstacles. Chauhan mentioned that ‘Chhaava’ should aim for an opening between ₹12-15 crores on its first day but cautioned that predictions are still premature. He noted that while Vicky Kaushal is a significant draw, the current advance sales do not indicate an exceptional opening. A clearer picture might emerge by Thursday.

Ramesh Bala echoed these sentiments regarding pre-sale figures and expected opening numbers, projecting a double-digit opening for the first day, likely between ₹10-15 crores. Both experts emphasized that Maharashtra is a key market for the film, given its focus on a Maratha warrior. They indicated that a strong opening could lead to impressive box office collections, with audience word-of-mouth also playing a crucial role. Bala concluded, “If it opens well, it could range between ₹40-50 crores. However, we will need to monitor audience reactions throughout the week.”

In ‘Chhaava,’ Vicky Kaushal is joined by Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna. The film is directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under the Maddock Films banner.
