UP Government to Enhance Urban Drainage System in Preparation for Monsoon
Officials announced on Saturday that, under the Mukhyamantri Nagariya Aviksit Evam Malin Basti Vikas Yojana, 16 significant projects are currently in progress in Mathura, Moradabad, Azamgarh, and Ghaziabad, with over Rs 169 lakh allocated for these initiatives. These projects are aimed at upgrading drainage systems, road infrastructure, sanitation, and clean drinking water facilities, thus enhancing living standards for city residents.
Led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government is dedicated to advancing urban development, ensuring that all citizens have access to essential services. The Mukhyamantri Nagariya Aviksit Evam Malin Basti Vikas Yojana emphasizes not only road and drainage construction but also sanitation, clean drinking water, and various civic amenities. To date, hundreds of projects have been approved under this scheme, benefiting millions and improving their quality of life.
The current development projects under this initiative aim to not only improve traffic flow but also resolve waterlogging issues in urban areas. This effort aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ and showcases the Yogi government’s commitment to elevating urban development in Uttar Pradesh.
The government’s intention goes beyond merely constructing roads and drainage systems; it aims to enhance urban infrastructure according to smart city standards. To facilitate this, Rs 65.416 lakh has been allocated for nine pending projects in Moradabad, which include building interlocking roads and drainage systems in Bank Colony, Bangla Gaon, and Basant Bahar. These projects are set to benefit thousands of residents who have faced challenges with waterlogging and poor road conditions, especially during the monsoon.
To tackle waterlogging and clogged drainage in Mathura, the Yogi government has initiated five major projects encompassing the Mathura Municipal Corporation, Mathura-Vrindavan, Goverdhan, Raya, and Baldev. An investment of Rs 65.54 lakh has been approved for these initiatives to ensure a systematic and efficient drainage system within the city.
Additionally, in Ghaziabad, the government has allocated Rs 14.727 lakh for the development of drainage systems and interlocking roads in Ward No. 2, Siddharth Vihar (Part-10). This area has long experienced issues with damaged roads and inadequate drainage, causing significant inconvenience to residents. Upon completion, the project is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and resolve waterlogging concerns.
Likewise, in Azamgarh, a budget of Rs 22.906 lakh has been designated for constructing roads and drainage systems in the Civil Lines area, a vital urban hub prone to flooding and road damage during the monsoon. This initiative aims to provide significant relief to residents and enhance infrastructure and quality of life in the region.
