On Thursday, thousands gathered at Deori Ghat to say a heartbreaking goodbye to Shubham Dwivedi from Kanpur, who tragically lost his life in the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. His cremation was held with full state honors, a ceremony filled with solemnity and a display of public solidarity.

Earlier that day, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Shubham’s family in Hathipur, Kanpur, to pay his respects. Bowing before the young man’s remains, the Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family. He spoke with Shubham’s father and thoughtfully listened as his wife recounted the tragic events.

Following his visit, CM Yogi addressed the press, denouncing the Pahalgam terror attack as a “barbaric and cowardly act,” and declared it as a sign that terrorism is nearing its end. He reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to a zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism and extremism, assuring both the people of Uttar Pradesh and the nation that those responsible would face justice.

“This government will decisively eliminate the scourge of terrorism,” the Chief Minister asserted. “The conspirators will be dealt with severely, and justice will be served. Those who inflicted such cruelty, including acts against Hindu women, will not escape punishment. There should be no doubt about this.”

CM Yogi further stressed that the attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, which targeted innocent tourists based on their religion, is condemned not just by India but by all civilized societies worldwide. “No ethical society can accept such atrocities,” he stated.

Highlighting national-level actions, the Chief Minister noted that the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has already made significant decisions in response to the attack. Home Minister Amit Shah has visited affected areas, and a comprehensive strategy to combat terrorism is being put into action.

“The final blow to terrorism is being struck,” CM Yogi remarked. “India stands united under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is essential for the entire country to join forces in solidarity to uphold our zero-tolerance policy and eradicate extremism completely.”

Expressing profound sorrow over Shubham Dwivedi’s untimely death, CM Yogi mentioned that he was the sole son in his family and had just been married two months prior. “We pray for his soul’s peace and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family during this painful time,” the Chief Minister added. “The nation stands united in denouncing this inhumane act.”

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, CM Yogi stated that the double-engine government stands firmly with Shubham’s family in their time of grief. “This government adheres to a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and brutality. Unlike those who compromise with terrorists for political gains, we ensure justice and support our people steadfastly.”

Shubham’s remains were transported to Lucknow on Wednesday night before being taken to Kanpur. Following the Chief Minister’s directives, all arrangements were made for his cremation with full state honors.
