Udupi Woman Duped of ₹12.46 Lakh in Online Investment Scam

Udupi: A 28-year-old woman named Sapna became the victim of a major online scam, losing ₹12.46 lakh to fraudsters who lured her with promises of high returns on investments.
According to reports, Sapna received a “Work from Home” link on her Instagram account on December 9. Believing it to be a genuine opportunity, she clicked on the link and was directed to invest money in various bank accounts, with the assurance of earning lucrative commissions.
Between December 9 and December 28, the woman transferred ₹12.46 lakh in multiple installments to accounts provided by the fraudsters. They convinced her of higher returns on additional investments, which prompted her to continue transferring money.
However, when the promised returns never materialized, Sapna realized she had been scammed. Despite her efforts to contact the individuals, they stopped responding, and the money was not returned.
Sapna has since filed a complaint with the police, detailing how she was deceived into transferring the large sum. The authorities are investigating the case and attempting to trace the accounts to identify the perpetrators.
The incident underscores the growing threat of online fraud and serves as a warning for individuals to remain cautious when dealing with unsolicited offers, especially those involving financial transactions.
