Udupi: Seven Fishermen Rescued After Boat Capsizes Off Kaup Coast
Udupi : A major mishap was narrowly avoided when a fishing boat carrying seven fishermen capsized near the lighthouse off the Kaup coast in Udupi district. The vessel, which had set out from Malpe, overturned after being struck by powerful waves.
All seven crew members were successfully rescued, thanks to the prompt response of nearby fishermen. Among those brought to safety were Prashanth and Vinod, who were swiftly assisted by locals witnessing the incident.

The accident occurred in the early hours off Kaup, but fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported. The quick action of fellow fishermen prevented what could have become a tragic event in Udupi’s coastal waters.

Manipal Student Drowns at Mattu Beach in Kapu
Kapu: A tragic incident occurred at Mattu Beach in Kapu taluk on Saturday when a student from Manipal lost his life while swimming in the sea.
The deceased has been identified as Veer Urlkar (18), a native of Madhya Pradesh and a student of a college in Manipal.
According to reports, six students had traveled from Manipal to Mattu Beach for an outing. Ignoring warnings from locals about the dangers of swimming in the rough sea, the group entered the water for fun. After being cautioned, they reportedly moved to another stretch of the beach where they continued swimming.
It was during this time that Veer got pulled under by strong currents and drowned. Despite rescue efforts by locals including Aryan and Praveen, the youth could not be saved.
Kapu police rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection. A case has been registered in connection with the incident.

Kapu police arrest absconding Garuda gang accused in Chikkamagaluru
Kapu: police have arrested Mohammad Asif, a resident of Navunda in Kundapura, who was wanted in connection with a criminal case registered in the kapu police station limits. Asif, linked to the notorious Garuda gang, had been absconding since February 2025 after falling to appear before the court for trial.
According to police, Asif has multiple cases registered against him – four at Gangolli Police station, two each at Byndoor, Kankanady (Mangaluru), and uppinangady police stations, in addition to the case at kapu .All these cases are under trial in various courts.
Acting on credible information, police traced Asif to Gauri Kaluve in the chikkamagaluru city on September 18 and took him into custody. He was produced before the II Additional District and sessions Court in Udupi, Which remanded him to judicial custody until October 16.
Following the court order, Asif has been lodged in Hiriyadka District Jail.

Udupi Uchila Dasara 2025: Invitation Extended to Co-operative Leader M.N. Rajendra Kumar
Kapu: The renowned Udupi Uchila Dasara 2025 celebrations will be held at the Sri Mahalakshmi Temple, Uchila, from September 22 to October 2, 2025.
