Udupi: Seema Tendulkar from Pernankila Selected as a Pilot in the Indian Navy
Udupi: A young woman from a small village in Udupi district has proven that with determination, no dream is too big to achieve. Seema Tendulkar, daughter of Sadananda Nayak and Jayashree Tendulkar from the village of Pernankila, has been selected as a pilot in the Indian Navy.
From a very young age, Seema had aspired to join the Indian Armed Forces. She made this her life’s goal and has now succeeded in fulfilling her childhood dream. Seema completed her primary and secondary education at a private school in Hiriyadka and went on to finish her pre-university studies in Karkala. Later, she earned an engineering degree from a college in Bengaluru.
Although she pursued engineering, her heart remained with the armed forces. Seema successfully cleared the direct recruitment interview conducted by the defense services and was commissioned as a Sub-Lieutenant in the Indian Navy. She is currently undergoing training at the Indian Naval Academy in Kerala.
Her father is a farmer, and her mother works as a vice-principal in a private school. During her college years, Seema was actively involved in the NCC (National Cadet Corps). In fact, in 2022, she represented Karnataka in the Guard of Honour at the Republic Day Parade.
“I have always dreamed of joining the Indian Armed Forces since childhood. That’s the reason I joined NCC. Participating in the Republic Day Parade further strengthened my resolve. Now that my dream has come true, I am extremely happy,” said Seema Tendulkar.
The state of Karnataka is celebrating Kannada Rajyotsava today with great pride and enthusiasm. The day marks the formation of the modern state of Karnataka on November 1, 1956, when all Kannada-speaking regions were united to form the then Mysore State. The state was later renamed Karnataka in 1973.
Rajyotsava is a celebration of the Kannada language, culture, and heritage. It reminds people of the importance of unity and the shared pride in their roots. The day also recognizes the achievements of individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the state through the prestigious Rajyotsava Awards, Karnataka’s second-highest civilian honor.
The celebrations began with the hoisting of the Karnataka flag and the singing of the state anthem. Government offices, schools, and institutions organized cultural programs showcasing traditional music, folk dances, and art performances. Streets and public buildings across cities and towns were decorated with red and yellow flags, symbolizing the colors of Karnataka.
Many schools and colleges held special assemblies to teach students about the significance of the day. People from all walks of life participated in rallies and events to express their love for the Kannada language.
The festival was not limited to Karnataka alone. Kannadiga communities living in other parts of India and abroad also celebrated the day with equal excitement, organizing cultural gatherings and community events.

Kannada Rajyotsava stands as a reminder of the unity, pride, and cultural richness of Karnataka, bringing people together in celebration of their shared identity.
Bagalkot: A tragic road accident claimed two lives and left several others injured in Bagalkot when an Innova car collided head-on with a tempo on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Mahesh Naikar (27) and Mehaboob Sheikh (30). The injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred due to the negligence of the car driver. The Innova, in an attempt to avoid hitting a Mahindra pickup vehicle ahead, swerved into the opposite lane and rammed into the oncoming tempo.
A case has been registered at the Kaladagi Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
Bagalkote: After a brief lull, heavy rains have once again battered parts of Karnataka, leading to a tragic incident in Rabkavi-Banahatti taluk of Bagalkote district.
In the early hours of Friday (Sept 27), the roof and a wall of a house collapsed due to the downpour, killing an 11-year-old boy identified as Darshan Lathur. Another boy, Shreeshail, sustained serious injuries in the accident.
According to reports, the two boys were sleeping with their mother in the room when the incident occurred around 5 a.m. Moments after their mother stepped into another room, the roof and wall came crashing down, leaving little chance for Darshan to survive.
Revenue officials and police rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection. The grief-stricken parents were inconsolable as they mourned the sudden loss of their son.
The incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of old and weak structures in rural areas during the monsoon season.
