Udupi: Fishing Boat Sinks After Collision with Driftwood in Malpe

On January 4th, two fishermen, Ravi Salyan and Harish, were transporting a fishing boat named “Tavakal” from Malpe port to Gangolli for repairs. While navigating about 2 nautical miles from Gangolli port, a large piece of driftwood suddenly collided with the boat. The impact caused damage to the boat’s front bottom, leading to water entering the vessel.
As the water flow increased and the boat began to sink, nearby fishermen received the distress signal and quickly dispatched another boat named “Jalarani” to rescue the two. Both fishermen were safely rescued.

Heart Attack Causes Bus Accident Near yermal, Udupi

A bus traveling from Mangalore to Manipal met with an accident near yermal, Udupi, after the driver suffered a heart attack. The incident occurred near the Yermal mosque when the driver suddenly experienced severe chest pain while driving the bus. Losing control of the vehicle, the bus veered off the road and descended into a nearby sloping area, continuing to move forward. It eventually collided with an electric pole, coming to a stop.
Due to the driver losing control, the bus also struck a pedestrian walking along the road, causing injuries. Several passengers on the bus sustained minor injuries as well. Both the driver and the injured pedestrian were immediately taken to the hospital by local residents. Fortunately, the bus did not overturn, and a major disaster was averted. Among the passengers were schoolchildren, who fortunately were unharmed in the incident.

Failed ATM Robbery Attempt in Udupi

A failed attempt to steal from an ATM occurred in Udupi, specifically at the Canara Bank ATM in Udyavara. Three masked individuals attempted to break into the ATM during the early hours of the night around 2 AM. The culprits tried to open the ATM box, but the alarm went off, alerting authorities. As a result, the robbers quickly fled the scene.
The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Kaup police station. Forensic experts and senior police officials visited the site for an investigation. The police have sent out alerts to nearby police stations and are actively working to track down the suspects.

Accused Couple Arrested Within 7 Hours of Theft in Gangolli

Udupi: Gangolli police have arrested a couple within just seven hours of a house theft in Gangolli, Udupi district. The arrested accused are Vinayak (41) and his wife Prameela (30), residents of Gujjadi, Kundapura.
The theft took place on January 21 near Trasi Beach, where a bag placed on a table inside a house was stolen. The bag contained a 16g gold necklace, a 16g gold bangle, and three gold rings weighing 3g, totaling a value of ₹2 lakh. A complaint was registered at Gangolli Police Station regarding the incident.
A special police team, led by PSI Harish R., including officers Shantharam, Raju, Nagaraj, Raghavendra, Sandeep Kurani, Maruti Naik, and Dinesh, swiftly launched an investigation. Based on their efforts, the accused were arrested by 8 PM on the same day.
The police have recovered the stolen gold ornaments worth ₹2 lakh and the scooter used in the crime. The arrested couple has been produced before the court, according to the police.
