Udit Narayan Humors About His Kissing Controversy

Renowned singer Udit Narayan recently became the center of significant controversy after a video of him kissing a fan went viral. In the footage, a female fan approached Narayan for a photo during one of his performances. After she kissed him on the cheek, he reciprocated by kissing the 21-year-old on the lips, which ignited widespread criticism on social media. Many users described his actions as ‘predatory’ and voiced their disapproval. In the wake of this backlash, older videos of the singer resurfaced online. At a recent event, however, Narayan addressed the situation with humor.

During a promotional event for Shiv Hare’s upcoming film, ‘Pintu Ki Pappi,’ Udit Narayan made light of the controversy. In a video that’s been circulating online, he joked about the connection between the kissing incident and the film’s title while speaking with Ganesh Acharya on stage. “You should change the title,” he said. “‘Pappi’ is alright. It’s a lovely title, Pintu Ki Pappi. Or should we call it ‘Udit ki Pappi’? It’s just a coincidence that this video came out now; it’s actually from two years ago in Australia.”

Previously, in an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Narayan addressed the incident more seriously. He stated, “Have I ever done anything to bring shame to myself, my family, or my country? Why would I do something like that at this stage in my life, having achieved so much? There is a deep, pure, and unbreakable bond between my fans and me. What you saw in that so-called scandalous video was merely a display of that affection. My fans love me, and I love them even more.”

When asked if he felt any shame about the incident, Udit firmly replied, “No, not at all! Why should I? Do you hear any regret or sorrow in my voice? I’m even laughing while I speak to you. It’s not sleazy or private; it’s out in the open. My heart is pure. If some people want to interpret my affectionate gesture as something inappropriate, then I feel sorry for them. I also want to thank them for making me even more famous than I already was.”

Additionally, Udit Narayan’s contemporary, Abhijit Bhattacharjee, voiced his support for him, calling his friend a ‘khiladi’ and standing by him during the controversy.
