Mungeli, Chhattisgarh – January 9, 2025 – A tragic incident occurred at Kusum Smelters Private Limited, located in the Saragaon area of Mungeli district, when a silo at the smelting plant collapsed, injuring two labourers and trapping two others under the debris. The accident took place around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.
The collapsed silo, a large iron structure used to store dust materials, fell suddenly, causing the workers to be buried beneath the wreckage. Preliminary reports indicate that the plant, which manufactures sponge iron, was operating with about 350 workers in various shifts. The incident occurred during lunchtime, which may have limited the number of people present at the site.
The Mungeli Superintendent of Police, Bhojram Patel, confirmed that two labourers sustained injuries, and two others are feared trapped under the debris. Authorities were immediately alerted, and rescue teams were dispatched to the scene. District officials, including the District Collector and SP, are actively involved in the ongoing search and rescue operation.
According to the Bilaspur Division Commissioner, Mahadeo Kawre, the plant management reported that two workers remain unaccounted for and are believed to be trapped under the collapsed structure. The rescue work is being conducted with urgency, and efforts to locate and rescue the missing labourers are continuing.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed concern over the incident and assured that rescue operations were being carried out on a war footing. In a statement, he said, “Sad news of an industrial accident has been reported at the smelters plant located in Rambod village of Mungeli district. Necessary instructions have been given to senior officials for relief and rescue work. The situation is being continuously monitored. I pray for the safety of the workers trapped under the debris and the speedy recovery of the injured.”
The plant is a major industrial unit in the region, and authorities are working diligently to manage the situation and ensure the safety of the remaining workers. The incident has raised concerns about workplace safety and the need for improved safety measures in industrial facilities.

Foreign Artist Sparks Outrage After Painting Elephant Pink for Jaipur Photoshoot
Jaipur: A foreign art photographer, Julia Buruleva, is facing strong criticism after images of a pink-painted elephant from a photoshoot in Jaipur went viral on social media.

The photos show a model posing on an elephant that was fully painted in bright pink. The model was also partly painted in the same colour. The shoot took place at an abandoned temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha.
Buruleva said she chose Jaipur because elephants are an important cultural symbol of Rajasthan. She explained that she spent weeks planning the shoot and took permissions before using the elephant. She also said that only organic and locally made colours were used, and that the animal was not harmed.

However, many people online were not convinced. Animal lovers and social media users strongly criticised the photoshoot. They called it “animal abuse” and “exploitation.”
Many users said that even safe colours should not be used on animals for artistic purposes. They pointed out that elephants have sensitive skin and should not be treated as props. Some people also said the artist misunderstood Indian culture and the importance of elephants in it.
Several users suggested that the photographer could have used digital tools or artificial intelligence instead of involving a real animal.
