Newborn Care: Simple Tips to Make Parenting Easier

Published

on

Lifestyle: Becoming a parent is a joyful experience, but caring for a newborn can also be tiring. Simple daily habits can make life easier for both babies and parents. Experts suggest a few easy techniques to improve sleep, feeding, and overall care.

Parents can make nighttime cleanups easier by layering the crib with a mattress protector, a sheet, another protector, and a second sheet. If there is a leak during the night, they only need to remove the top layer instead of changing the entire bed.

When placing a sleeping baby in a bassinet, parents should gently lower the baby’s feet first, followed by the bottom, and then the head. Keeping a hand on the baby’s chest for a few seconds can help prevent sudden waking.

Using a white noise machine can block household sounds and help babies sleep more peacefully. Swaddling babies properly or using a Velcro sleep sack can also help keep them calm and comfortable.

At night, parents are advised to change the baby’s diaper before feeding. This helps wake the baby enough to have a full feeding, and the feeding often helps the baby fall asleep again.

Another useful trick is to place a clean diaper under the baby before removing the dirty one. This helps catch any unexpected mess and makes diaper changes quicker.

Parents should also keep extra clothes, burp cloths, and clean sheets near feeding and sleeping areas. This saves time during unexpected spills or diaper leaks.

If a baby has trapped gas, gentle bicycle leg movements may help relieve tummy discomfort and make the baby feel more comfortable.

Experts also remind parents to take care of themselves. Accepting help from family and friends for meals, errands, or babysitting can provide much-needed rest.

Keeping healthy one-handed snacks, such as nuts, fruit, or protein bars, nearby can help parents stay energized while feeding or holding the baby.

Above all, parents should remember that the difficult newborn stage is temporary. Sleepless nights, frequent feeding, and crying will gradually become easier as the baby grows.
