Mother Kills Daughter Hours after Losing Custody Battle in Texas
Houston: A 35-year-old woman in Texas allegedly shot and killed her four-year-old daughter before turning the gun on herself, hours after losing a custody battle with the child’s father.
The incident took place at a home in Houston on Tuesday evening. Cibelle Savella was reportedly supposed to hand over her daughter, Vivian, to her former husband, Aaron Savella, following a family court order.
Houston Police Department officers arrived at the house around 5:45 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting on the third floor.
Police found Vivian with an apparent gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers also found her mother with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face. She was taken to a hospital for treatment but was later pronounced dead, police said.
Savella, who was originally from Brazil, had gone through a difficult divorce from Aaron in November 2024 after four years of marriage. The couple later became involved in a lengthy custody dispute over their daughter.
A family court judge had ruled that Vivian would be placed in Aaron’s primary care. The child was expected to be handed over to her father on Tuesday evening.
Aaron’s lawyer, Charlotte Rainwater, said the family was devastated by the tragedy. She said she had never witnessed such an incident during her 28 years of practising family law.
Rainwater said no one involved in the court proceedings expected such a tragic outcome.

A family member said Aaron had followed the legal process and trusted the court to protect his daughter. However, he never got the chance to bring Vivian home.
“Vivian was four years old. She was loved without limit by her father, Aaron, and by everyone whose life she touched,” the family member said.
The relative added that Aaron had followed every court order and waited for the legal process to work.
The case remains under investigation by Houston police.
