Actress Aimee Lou Wood expressed her frustration over the fact that her teeth receive more attention than her acting talent. While the 31-year-old is pleased that the gap in her smile is seen as a symbol of rebellion and freedom, she is disappointed that conversations often focus on a woman’s appearance rather than her professional accomplishments, as reported by ‘Female First UK’.

In an interview with GQ Hype magazine, Aimee shared, “It brings me joy that it symbolizes rebellion and freedom, but there’s a limit. The discussions seem to revolve solely around my teeth, which saddens me because it overshadows my work. People may think they’re being kind by not criticizing, yet I can’t help but wonder: if I were a man, would this be discussed to the same extent? It feels like a recurring focus on a woman’s looks.”

During filming in Thailand for the hit HBO dark comedy-drama ‘The White Lotus 3’, Aimee was informed by a producer that the show’s creator, Mike White, strongly advocated for her casting as Chelsea. Despite this, she had concerns about HBO’s perception of her due to her appearance. She recalled, “I was told how much Mike had fought for me. They said, ‘It had to be you, regardless of what HBO thought’. While their intentions were good, my mind raced with thoughts like, ‘HBO didn’t want me because I’m ugly. Mike had to plead for the ugly girl.’”

Aimee noted, however, that Mike reassured her by encouraging her to embrace her uniqueness. She recounted his words: “Don’t hold back your weirdness. Be freaky!” ‘The White Lotus’ follows the lives of various guests and employees of the fictional resort chain, exploring how their individual dysfunctions impact their stay.

The accomplished ensemble cast, which includes Patrick Schwarzenegger, Parker Posey, and Sarah Catherine Hook, spent seven months at the Four Seasons hotel in Koh Samui. Aimee admitted that she struggled to keep her grip on reality and felt emotionally drained during the experience. She described it as “a slow and steady disintegration of my sanity, unlike anything I’d ever faced. It felt like a bit of a social experiment.”
