Tesla Starts Recruitment in India Following PM Modi’s Meeting with Elon Musk

Published

on

Just days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s discussion with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the electric vehicle leader has begun its recruitment efforts in India, signaling that its long-awaited entry into the market may be on the horizon.Tesla has listed 13 job openings on its LinkedIn page, based in Mumbai and Delhi, covering roles in customer service, advisory, and backend operations.

Among the key positions available are service technicians and advisory roles, with several openings in both Mumbai and Delhi. Other roles, such as customer engagement manager and delivery operations specialist, are currently listed exclusively for Mumbai.

The available job titles at Tesla include Inside Sales Advisor, Customer Support Supervisor, Customer Support Specialist, Service Advisor, Order Operations Specialist, Service Manager, Tesla Advisor, Parts Advisor, Business Operations Analyst, Store Manager, and Service Technician.

Tesla has been interested in entering the Indian market for quite some time, but its plans faced delays due to concerns over tariffs and policy issues. In fact, Musk had to cancel a planned visit to India last year at the last moment.

The recent decision by the Indian government to lower the basic customs duty on luxury EVs priced above USD 40,000 from 110% to 70% seems to remove a significant barrier for Tesla’s entry.

While Tesla’s hiring activity indicates preparations for launching its operations in India, the company has yet to make a formal announcement. It remains uncertain whether Tesla will commence operations by importing vehicles or by setting up a local manufacturing facility.

Nevertheless, with recruitment already in motion, Tesla’s highly anticipated arrival in India appears to be imminent.
