Directed by Bill Condon of ‘Dreamgirls’ fame, this musical drama features Lopez as Ingrid Luna, a captivating silver screen diva known for portraying a “spider woman” who seduces men to their fate with a single kiss.

Combining elements of meta-narrative and fantasy, the film explores themes of resistance and survival.

Set against the backdrop of a 1981 Argentinian prison during the devastating Dirty War, the plot centers on Luis Molina (played by Tonatiuh Elizarraraz from ‘Vida’), a gay hairdresser imprisoned for supposed moral transgressions.

To escape the harsh realities of jail, Luis immerses himself in the glamorous yet perilous black-and-white world of Ingrid Luna’s films. However, his solitary existence shifts dramatically when he must share a cell with Valentin Arregui Paz (portrayed by Diego Luna from ‘Andor’), a Marxist political prisoner. What starts as friction evolves into a profound bond as the two men connect through stories, music, and shared aspirations for freedom.

Their poignant journey is set to a powerful score featuring 13 songs, with Lopez, Tonatiuh, and Luna all contributing their vocals.

Originally a novel by Manuel Puig, later adapted into a stage musical by Terrence McNally, John Kander, and Fred Ebb, ‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’ has seen various interpretations.

This marks the story’s second cinematic adaptation after the 1985 Brazilian film and its first as a musical feature. It debuted at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, earning acclaim for its emotional resonance, compelling performances, and rich musicality.
