Teachers Transport School Children in Pickup and Tipper, Parents Outraged

Belthangady: A dangerous incident was reported from Balanje village in Belthangady taluk, where school children were transported in an open pickup and tipper vehicle.

The students were taken on a trip to study beekeeping. Teachers allegedly carried the children in goods vehicles, treating them like cargo.

The incident came to light after locals noticed the unsafe travel. Parents expressed strong anger and questioned the school authorities.

Under the Motor Vehicles Act, goods vehicles are not permitted to transport passengers. Parents asked why school children were allowed to travel in such vehicles despite the rule.

They also demanded to know who would be responsible if an accident had occurred. The parents confronted Headmaster Kiran over the matter.

Members of the public have urged the police to take strict legal action against the headmaster and the drivers of both vehicles.

Woman Delivers Baby in Ambulance on the Way to Hospital

Belthangady: A woman gave birth to a baby boy inside an ambulance while being taken to the hospital for delivery in Belthangady.

The incident took place on February 23 in the early morning. The woman, identified as Leelavathi, a resident of Sudemugere in Belthangady town, had come to the Belthangady Taluk Government Hospital for delivery.

As per the doctors’ advice, she wished to deliver her baby at Lady Goschen Hospital in Mangaluru. She was referred to the hospital and was sent in an ambulance along with two nurses.

While the ambulance was nearing Farangipete, she experienced severe labour pain. The nurses immediately acted and successfully conducted the delivery inside the ambulance.

The ambulance driver, Dinesh Gowda, showed presence of mind and drove quickly to Lady Goschen Hospital in Mangaluru. His timely action was appreciated by the public.

Both the mother and the newborn baby boy are reported to be healthy and stable.

Fire Breaks Out at Shop After Helium Gas Leak in Belthangady

Belthangady: A shop was destroyed after a fire broke out due to a helium gas leak in Belthangady on Friday morning.

The incident happened at Heraje Complex, where the KAF Creative Art & Craft Store was located on the first floor. Two workers were filling balloons with gas around 7:30 am when the leak triggered the fire.

Both workers escaped safely by running outside. Firefighters and locals quickly controlled the flames, but the shop was completely gutted. Nearby stores also suffered damage from the heat.

Hundreds of people gathered at the spot, causing traffic disruption. Belthangady Police and traffic officers managed the situation and cleared the road.

A female shop worker fainted after witnessing the fire and was later taken to a hospital by locals.

Minor College Student Escapes Kidnap Attempt in Belthangady

Belthangady: A minor college student narrowly escaped a kidnap attempt near Santekatte in Belthangady taluk on Monday morning.

The student, a first-year PU student from Sude Mugeru, was going to college on her scooter at around 8:30 am. She was on her way to board a bus when the incident happened.

A car with three unidentified men blocked her path. The vehicle reportedly had no visible number plate. The men tried to force the girl into the car.

The student screamed loudly and resisted their attempt. She managed to free herself and ran away from the attackers.

While she was escaping, the accused bit her hand and fingers and assaulted her. The attackers also took her college bag before fleeing the spot in the car.

The injured student was admitted to the Belthangady Taluk Government Hospital for treatment. Belthangady police visited the hospital, recorded her statement, and have started an investigation into the case.
