Tamil Nadu: Senior IPS Officer Claims Life Attempt Against Her
Nayak has called for an unbiased investigation into the fire that erupted in her office on July 29, 2024. This incident happened just days after she brought to light serious violations of reservation policies regarding the recruitment of SIs, Constables, Prison Warders, and Firemen.
“Had I been in my office that day, I would have lost my life,” she remarked, suggesting that the attack was not solely a reaction to her recent disclosures but was also connected to prior recruitment discrepancies. Notably, the fire occurred on the day she was meant to approve a revised selection list in line with the High Court’s directives on communal reservations, yet the list was released the next day without her endorsement.
After receiving no response regarding the fire incident, she formally addressed DGP Jiwal in a letter on August 15, 2024, expressing her concern that if a senior police officer could be targeted so easily, it posed grave implications for law enforcement in Tamil Nadu.
In response to the allegations, the TNUSRB has denied any wrongdoing, and the DGP’s office has also rejected claims of sabotage. “A forensic report indicates a short circuit in the copper wires. Additionally, forensic analyses, including thin-layer chromatography and gas chromatography, found no traces of incendiary materials such as petrol, diesel, or other flammable substances,” the DGP’s office stated, asserting that no intentional act of arson was identified.
Meanwhile, opposition parties, including AIADMK, BJP, and PMK, have strongly condemned the ruling DMK government and are calling for a comprehensive and independent investigation into the serious claims made by the senior officer.
