Sydney Sweeney, renowned for her role in ‘Euphoria,’ is embracing a bold new challenge as she prepares to take on the iconic boxer Christy Martin in an upcoming untitled biopic. In an interview with ‘W Magazine,’ the actress opened up about the significant physical and mental changes she has undergone to embody this legendary fighter.

Sweeney recognized that this role demanded a commitment unlike any she had previously experienced. “I had about three and a half months to completely transform myself,” she shared. Her schedule quickly became intense, consisting of rigorous training that involved an hour of weightlifting every morning, two hours of kickboxing in the afternoon, and another hour of weights in the evening.

Beyond the visible changes, her body underwent a complete transformation. “I didn’t fit into any of my clothes,” she revealed, stating that she typically wore size 23 jeans but had to size up to 27. “My boobs got bigger. My butt got huge. It was crazy!” she laughed, marveling at her own reflection. “I felt amazing — I was incredibly strong.”

Last year, Sweeney shared photos showcasing her newly sculpted muscles, which are now understood as part of her preparation for this demanding role. Her transformation wasn’t solely about aesthetics; it was about capturing the essence and strength of Christy Martin, a trailblazer in a male-dominated sport.

Directed by David Michod, who co-wrote the screenplay with Mirrah Foulkes, the film will chronicle Christy Martin’s inspiring yet challenging journey. Known as “The Coal Miner’s Daughter,” Christy gained fame in the 1990s as one of America’s most celebrated female boxers. She turned professional in 1989 and became the super welterweight world champion in 2009.

However, Martin’s story extends beyond her in-ring successes. The biopic will delve into the darker aspects of her life, including a traumatic event in 2010, when she survived a vicious attack by her then-husband, James Martin, who stabbed and shot her in their Florida home. Against all odds, she survived, while James was subsequently convicted of attempted second-degree murder and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
