Sunny Deol suggests Bollywood look to the South for filmmaking inspiration.
As Sunny Deol celebrated the producers of ‘Jaat,’ he drew a comparison between Bollywood and the South. He stated, “I wish Bollywood producers would learn from them. You refer to it as Bollywood, but it’s important to call it Hindi cinema first. They have mastered the art of making films with passion, and I really enjoyed collaborating with them. I even suggested to them, ‘Let’s do another film.’ Perhaps I’ll end up settling down in the South.”
He also praised the authenticity found in Southern cinema, pointing out Bollywood’s tendency to be influenced by Western trends. “Southern films preserve their cultural roots, which makes them resonate across India. I believe Hindi cinema should also return to its roots, similar to my past films like ‘Ghatak,’ ‘Damini,’ and ‘Arjun.’ We need to create more films in that spirit.”
When asked about the shortcomings of the Hindi Film Industry, Deol highlighted the issue of commercialization. “In the past, producers responded to a story they felt passionate about when a director pitched it. But with the advent of corporate influence, filmmaking became overly commercial. This shift has led to a loss of interest among audiences; those who had a genuine passion for storytelling were sidelined.”
Regarded as “the biggest action film in the country,” ‘Jaat’ is co-produced by Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory. The film features a musical score by S Thaman, while Rishi Punjabi handles the cinematography. The technical team also includes editor Naveen Nooli and art director Avinash Kolla. This action-packed film will be Gopichand Malineni’s debut in Hindi cinema and stars Sunny Deol alongside Randeep Hooda, Saiyami Kher, and Regina Cassandra. ‘Jaat’ is set to release in theaters on April 10.
