SRK Discusses Aryan Khan’s Pitch to Netflix and Why It Didn’t Come to Fruition

Published

on

Aryan Khan, son of Shah Rukh Khan (SRK), is set to make his directorial debut with the Netflix series ‘Ba***ds of Bollywood.’ The announcement was made at a recent Netflix event showcasing upcoming content for the platform. SRK attended the event to support his son and engaged openly with the audience, sharing entertaining stories and showcasing his trademark humor and charisma. Aryan’s project is being produced under SRK’s production company, Red Chilies Entertainment.

During the event, SRK revealed that he had initially pitched Aryan to Netflix, but circumstances didn’t align. “He learned direction and production at USC (University of Southern California) in America. It’s quite a strange coincidence. If it hadn’t been for Covid, I had discussed with Ted and Bela about giving him a job at Netflix so he could assist someone. But Covid happened, and he returned to India,” he explained, noting that this led Aryan to begin writing instead.

Shah Rukh Khan mentioned the names of Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos and Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria, indicating his involvement in Aryan’s early career exploration in Hollywood. His production company has previously backed numerous successful projects on the streaming platform.

Additionally, SRK humorously quipped about his role as a producer during the launch, saying, “I’m just a namesake producer. It’s simple for me. All these titles—producer, director, writer—don’t matter. I’m just a bloody star. Music sounds better when an actor is involved, not a producer.” This elicited loud cheers from fans celebrating the King of Bollywood.

Regarding ‘Ba***ds of Bollywood,’ the series will center on an ambitious outsider and his friends as they navigate the glamorous yet unpredictable film industry. The teaser showed the father-son duo in action, with SRK in front of the camera receiving direction from Aryan, who repeatedly asked for retakes. SRK playfully responded with, “Shut up…one more, one more…Does your father own this business?” To which Aryan cheekily replied, “Yes.”

At the event, SRK expressed his best wishes for his children as they embark on their journeys in Bollywood. His daughter, Suhana, has already made her debut in the Netflix film, ‘Archies.’ He said, “I hope they receive at least 50 percent of the love I’ve received; that would mean a lot to them.”
