‘Snow White’ Remake Featuring Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler Launches Amid Controversy

Disney’s live-action adaptation of ‘Snow White’ has made its debut in theaters this weekend, but not without stirring considerable controversy. The film has sparked discussions ranging from casting choices to alterations in its storyline, becoming a focal point of debate since its announcement.

As initial reviews begin to surface, the hype surrounding ‘Snow White’ doesn’t seem to align with Disney’s expectations.

Featuring Rachel Zegler in the lead role and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, the ‘Snow White’ remake was officially released on March 21, following preview screenings on March 20. Directed by Marc Webb and scripted by Erin Cressida Wilson, this live-action version reinterprets Disney’s 1937 animated classic, which itself was inspired by the Brothers Grimm fairy tale.

While Disney has seen success with previous live-action remakes such as ‘The Lion King’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ the path for ‘Snow White’ has been considerably more tumultuous. Prior to its release, the film faced significant backlash over various aspects, including casting decisions and its approach to modernizing the beloved tale.

What’s the controversy surrounding the ‘Snow White’ remake?
The primary contention arose when Rachel Zegler was cast as Snow White in 2021. Critics pointed out that the original character is described as having “skin as white as snow,” while Zegler, who has Colombian and Polish roots, does not conform to this traditional depiction. This casting choice ignited a heated online discussion, with some fans celebrating the embrace of diversity, while others questioned the decision.

In response to the criticism, Zegler clarified that the new version alters the significance of Snow White’s name; rather than referring strictly to her complexion, it now symbolizes her survival of a snowstorm as a baby. She received backing from singer and actress Brandy, who faced similar scrutiny as the first Black actress to portray Cinderella in the 1997 remake.

However, the casting debate wasn’t the sole point of contention. Actor Peter Dinklage, famous for his role in ‘Game of Thrones,’ criticized Disney for what he deemed antiquated storytelling. “They are proud to cast a Latino actress as Snow White, yet you still present the tale of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,’” Dinklage stated in an interview. He condemned the film for perpetuating stereotypes and questioned why a more progressive narrative hadn’t been adopted in its revision.

How is the movie performing?
Despite the buzz, early reviews have not been overwhelmingly positive. Critics have noted that while ‘Snow White’ is visually striking, it lacks the charm of the original. Many feel that the updated story, intended to be more modern and empowering, has lost the essence of the classic tale.

Box office projections are tepid, to say the least. Although Disney’s remakes typically fare well, the mixed critical reception and ongoing controversies may hinder ticket sales.

With audiences divided and faced with competition from other spring releases, it remains to be seen whether ‘Snow White’ can enchant viewers or if it will be overshadowed.

Model Arrested After Customs Find Drugs in Luggage

Mumbai: Customs officials arrested former Mrs Kerala beauty pageant contestant Harsha Sunny (28) at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.

She was allegedly carrying hydroponic cannabis worth around ₹11.82 crore from Bangkok. Officials stopped her on suspicion and searched her luggage.

During the search, they found 12 packets containing the banned substance. Harsha Sunny was arrested under the NDPS Act and produced before a court.

The court sent her to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway. Harsha Sunny had participated in the Mrs Kerala beauty pageant in 2025.

Akshay Kumar Responds to ‘Flop Actor’ Remark in Welcome to The Jungle

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has responded to being called a “flop actor” in the upcoming film Welcome to The Jungle. He said the dialogue should be understood as part of the movie and not taken personally.

Speaking at the trailer launch event in Mumbai, Akshay explained that such dialogues are written to suit the story and the character. He said audiences should view them in the context of the film.

“We are not told to use such dialogues as taunts. When you watch a movie, you should understand it according to the character and the story. Thank you for feeling bad about it, but please do not take it so seriously,” Akshay said.

The trailer of Welcome To The Jungle runs for more than four minutes and features a mix of comedy, action, and adventure. Unlike the earlier films in the franchise, the story is set in a jungle.

Akshay plays a struggling actor who is trying to revive his career after a series of unsuccessful films. His fortunes appear to improve when he gets a new film opposite a successful actress, played by Jacqueline Fernandez.

However, the film shoot turns into a real-life adventure when the crew reaches a village near the border. The villagers mistakenly believe the actors are soldiers and ask them to protect the village from a dangerous gang led by Jackie Shroff.

The misunderstanding leads to several humorous situations, with Akshay’s character repeatedly reminding everyone that he is only an actor and not a real-life hero.

The film is directed by Ahmed Khan and produced by Firoz A. Nadiadwala, Rakesh Dang, and Vedant Vikaas Baali. Welcome To The Jungle is scheduled to release in theatres on June 26.

Mumbai: Punjabi actress and model Isha Rikhi has finally confirmed that she is married to rapper and singer Badshah.

The confirmation came during an Instagram “Ask Me Anything” session. Responding to a fan’s question, Isha said that she is married and jokingly asked her husband, Badshah, to answer the many questions people have about their relationship.

Another fan asked why she had never shared a photo with Badshah. In response, Isha posted a rare romantic picture of the couple, delighting their fans.

Rumours about their marriage began in March after photos and videos from a private wedding ceremony were shared on social media. The event was attended by close family members and friends.

While Badshah has not yet made an official statement, Isha’s comments have confirmed that the couple is married.
