Shah Alleviates Concerns Over South Losing Lok Sabha Seats in Delimitation Process

Published

on

Addressing concerns from Tamil Nadu and other southern states about potential reductions in Lok Sabha seats due to the impending delimitation process scheduled for next year, Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah confidently assured that there will be no loss of seats. He accused Chief Minister MK Stalin of using this issue as a distraction from the significant corruption occurring under the DMK government.“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear in the Lok Sabha that even after the delimitation, none of the southern states will lose their current number of parliamentary seats. In fact, there may even be an increase in seats,” Shah stated during the inauguration of the new BJP office complex in Coimbatore.

He was also in the area to take part in the Maha Shivaratri celebrations at the Isha Yoga Centre, founded by Jaggi Vasudev.

Stalin, who has referred to the population-based delimitation exercise as a “Damocles sword” hanging over the southern states, warned that Tamil Nadu might lose eight Lok Sabha seats. He argued that this scenario would penalize the southern states for their success in implementing family planning initiatives. Stalin has called for an all-party meeting on March 5 to discuss what he termed the “threat faced by Tamil Nadu” and to formulate a strategy to protect the state’s interests.

The Home Minister criticized Stalin for bringing up the delimitation issue to deflect attention from the rampant corruption within the DMK. “Leaders of the DMK seem to hold advanced degrees in corruption. One is involved in a cash-for-jobs scandal, another faces money laundering charges, and a third is implicated in a disproportionate assets case. It appears the DMK selectively invites the most corrupt individuals into its fold,” Shah claimed, emphasizing the need to end the DMK’s corrupt governance in Tamil Nadu.

“The year 2005 started with a historic victory in Delhi and will culminate in forming an NDA government in Tamil Nadu in the 2026 assembly elections,” Shah declared, aiming to motivate the party’s base.

The BJP leader also responded to Stalin’s accusations regarding unfair treatment of Tamil Nadu by the Union Government in fund allotments, stating that over the past decade, the state has received more than Rs five lakh crore, dismissing the claims as unfounded.
