Semifinal Scenario: India’s Road to the Semis Gets Tough
Ahmedabad: Anything can happen in T20 cricket, and the match between India and South Africa in Ahmedabad proved it again. India was expected to win easily, but South Africa registered a big victory. After this defeat, India’s path to the semifinals has become very difficult.
Strategy 1: India Must Win Two Matches
India lost the first Super 8 match by 71 runs. To stay in the race, India must win the remaining two matches. If India wins both games, the team will earn four points. That could be enough to reach the semifinals. However, a strong net run rate will be very important. On the other hand, if South Africa wins just one of their remaining two matches, their semifinal spot will almost be confirmed.
Strategy 2: One Win May Also Work
India has already played against South Africa. The team still has matches against West Indies and Zimbabwe. If India wins at least one match with a good net run rate, there is still a chance to qualify. However, this depends on other results. South Africa must win both their remaining matches. At the same time, Zimbabwe and West Indies should win only one match each.
