Selena Gomez Speaks Out Against Social Media Hate: “Women Face Greater Struggles!”

Published

on

Selena Gomez is well aware of the pressures that come with fame, particularly when it comes to the online harassment women face. In a thoughtful conversation on the ‘On Purpose with Jay Shetty’ podcast, she and her fiancé, music producer Benny Blanco, discussed the darker aspects of being scrutinized on social media.

While Blanco tends to brush off public opinion, Gomez takes a different stance. “Women definitely have it worse,” she noted, elaborating on how the internet’s fixation on looks and personal choices affects female celebrities far more than their male peers.

The singer of ‘Lose You to Love Me’ revealed that the critical comments she encounters even influence her experience on the red carpet. “Most of the time, when I’m getting ready for an event, I’m just hoping I can take the picture and then sit down,” she admitted. Despite her extensive fanbase, Gomez continues to deal with a wave of judgment concerning everything from her ethnic identity to her weight.

She remarked, “For men, people don’t really care who they date or what they look like, but for women, it’s always under scrutiny.” The negativity regarding her weight has been particularly challenging. “It’s significant. Honestly, it makes me feel sad—maybe even a bit bitter. I hate to admit it, but it’s true.”

On a lighter note, Blanco shared a fun detail about their relationship, revealing that Gomez was almost late to his proposal because she was feeling grumpy that day. “She was this close to not coming,” he laughed. Luckily, she changed her mind, and the rest is history.
