SC Suspends Construction and Renovation Activities at Mehrauli Archaeological Park

Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, leading a bench that included Justice Sanjay Kumar, stated that any renovation would require permission in accordance with existing laws.
The court’s decision to halt the construction came during the hearing of a petition filed by Zameer Ahmed Jumlana, who sought to protect the archaeological park’s religious structures from potential demolition.
Senior advocate Nidhesh Gupta, representing Jumlana, highlighted a status report from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), indicating that some monuments in the area date back approximately 700 years.
Jumlana claimed that the Delhi Development Authority had plans to demolish these structures under the pretext of removing encroachments, without considering their historical value. He challenged a February 8, 2025, order from the Delhi High Court, which stated that the religious committee led by Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena could take up the matter. Jumlana argued that this committee was not the appropriate body to determine the historical significance of the structures.

Kerala HC Grants Relief to CM’s Daughter Veena Vijayan by Extending Status Quo in SFIO Case

This High Court ruling puts a temporary stop to further proceedings in the CMRL pay-off case stemming from the SFIO’s charge sheet. Previously, on April 16, a single bench of the High Court reviewed a petition from CMRL contesting the Additional Sessions Court-VII’s acceptance of the SFIO’s prosecution complaint.
CMRL challenged the order from the Additional District and Sessions Court–VII, arguing that they were not afforded an opportunity for a pre-cognizance hearing as stipulated under Section 223(1) of the BNSS. They contend that since the SFIO’s complaint was filed in March-April 2025, the BNSS provisions should apply.
The High Court’s ruling halts the issuance of summons related to the SFIO’s prosecution complaint, providing temporary relief to the accused, including Veena Vijayan.
