Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao, the visionary directors of ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’, are reveling in a much-deserved success. Their 2016 romantic drama, featuring Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, has made a surprising and historic return to theaters, shattering records and demonstrating that genuine love stories remain timeless.
Initially, the film had a modest box office performance; however, it has now triumphed as the highest-grossing re-released film of the weekend.

The directors expressed their elation, stating, “We are incredibly excited to witness the historic resurgence of ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’. The astonishing response, record-breaking numbers, and the profound emotional connection audiences maintain with this film make this journey truly extraordinary. We firmly believe it has finally received the recognition it always deserved.”

Re-released on February 7, the film opened with an impressive collection of Rs 4.25 crore on its first day, surging to Rs 5.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 6 crore on Sunday. With a total weekend revenue of Rs 15.75 crore, this re-release has outdone its original lifetime earnings by over 170%—a remarkable feat that few could have anticipated.
Produced by Deepak Mukut and featuring music by Himesh Reshammiya, the film narrates a touching love story that resonated with audiences during its original release. Although it may not have been a commercial hit at the time, its fan base has grown significantly over the years, establishing it as a cult classic among romance enthusiasts.
A compelling story emerging from this revival is that of Harshvardhan Rane’s casting journey. Reflecting on his experience, Rane revealed that he almost missed out on the role.
“I arrived four months late for the audition. When I entered the office, I was told that the casting was complete, and I was wasting my time. But I was determined. I just wanted to perform, even if they discarded my audition. After much persuasion, they finally allowed me to try out. That moment changed everything for me.”
Rane’s perseverance paid off, resulting in one of his most notable performances. His portrayal of the brooding Inder, coupled with Mawra Hocane’s emotional depth as Saru, turned ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ into an unforgettable experience for countless fans.
