Samay Raina Cancels Gujarat Shows Amid India’s Got Latent Controversy

Stand-up comedian Samay Raina’s upcoming shows in Gujarat have reportedly been cancelled due to backlash over controversial remarks made on his show, “India’s Got Latent.” The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) announced on Wednesday that tickets for Raina’s planned performances in April are no longer available on BookMyShow.The controversy ignited after social media influencer Ranveer Allahbadia, a guest on Raina’s show, made comments regarding parents and sex that quickly went viral. The clip that emerged on Monday sparked outrage and resulted in several police complaints being filed in Mumbai and Guwahati.

According to VHP spokesperson Hitendrasinh Rajput, Raina had scheduled four performances in Gujarat: Surat on April 17, Vadodara on April 18, and two consecutive shows in Ahmedabad on April 19 and 20.

Additionally, Samay Raina has removed episodes of “India’s Got Latent” from online platforms, stating that the controversy became “too much for me to handle.”

In light of the public response, VHP regional secretary Ashvin Patel confirmed that the shows would no longer take place, attributing the decision to public pressure. “Given the sentiments of the public, it appears that the organizers have opted to cancel Samay Raina’s performances in Gujarat. We commend the people of Gujarat for their attentiveness and encourage event organizers to refrain from hosting such individuals in the future,” Patel stated.

After maintaining silence on the matter, Raina addressed the controversy on Wednesday via a post on Twitter (now X), announcing the removal of all episodes of the show and expressing his intention to cooperate fully with authorities.

Meanwhile, legal repercussions are intensifying for the show’s team, as police have filed an FIR against Raina, Allahbadia, and others concerning the allegedly offensive content.
