Samantha Ruth Prabhu Shares the Performances That Made Her Feel ‘Cringe’

Published

on

Indian cinema star Samantha Ruth Prabhu recently celebrated 15 years in the industry since her debut in ‘Ye Maaya Chesave.’ In a heartfelt discussion with Times of India, she reminisced about her journey and candidly shared which of her performances still make her cringe.

Reflecting on her early career, Samantha expressed that while she feels content now, those initial days were quite ‘stressful’ for her. She explained that it was challenging to focus solely on acting without the myriad of responsibilities she handles today. When asked why she felt so much pressure back then, she admitted that she linked her self-worth to the success of her films.

The ‘Kushi’ star stated, “It was stressful because I associated my self-worth with each film’s success, which was out of my hands. Every Friday filled me with anxiety, as my confidence relied on box office performance. That mindset was damaging. Now, I adopt a clearer perspective and show myself more kindness.”

Samantha also opened up about how she often revisits her earlier work, revealing that some of her performances make her cringe. “I feel embarrassed watching those performances because I was trying too hard to fit in. Many of the glamorous roles in my early career didn’t reflect who I truly am. I mimicked my talented peers, and now those attempts seem quite ridiculous to me.”

Starting her acting journey in 2010 with ‘Ye Maaya Chesave,’ Samantha showcased her versatility in 2023 with roles in ‘Shaakunthalam’ and ‘Kushi.’ Last year, she starred in the Indian adaptation of ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny’ alongside Varun Dhawan, part of the international series that featured Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden. Looking ahead, she is set to collaborate with directors Raj & DK again for ‘Rakt Bramhand’ opposite Aditya Roy Kapoor, and she is also producing the film ‘Maa Inti Bangaram’ which is in the works.
