Salman Khan and Atlee’s High-Profile Film Delayed Due to Rajinikanth?
A source shared insights with Pinkvilla regarding the delay: “A6 with Salman Khan was initially conceived as a two-hero project, aiming to bring together top names from both North and South Indian cinema to justify the massive budget of Rs 650 crore. Although Salman Khan agreed to join the film, Atlee and Sun Pictures were optimistic about securing either Kamal Haasan or Rajinikanth for the role. Discussions with both icons of Tamil cinema extended over six months, but ultimately, things didn’t come together for various reasons.”
The source added, “Kamal Haasan wasn’t certain about portraying Salman Khan’s father in the film, while Rajinikanth is tied up with the filming of ‘Coolie’ and ‘Jailer 2’ until early 2026. He is also close to approving another project following ‘Jailer 2,’ which means his schedule is fully booked.” With both actors unavailable, Atlee and Sun Pictures began exploring alternatives, but finding a suitable replacement for either Rajinikanth or Kamal Haasan proved challenging. They sought someone who could generate significant revenue from both digital and satellite platforms in the local language, akin to what Rajinikanth or Kamal Haasan brings to Tamil cinema. Unfortunately, suitable senior superstars with that kind of market appeal are scarce.
Additionally, the source revealed, “There were discussions with Sylvester Stallone to take on a parallel lead role, but financial negotiations didn’t align. The team is still considering other international names, although this process may take longer than expected due to contractual complexities and other hurdles. After exhausting various options, Atlee, Salman, and Sun Pictures have decided to collaborate in the future, as certain projects are designed to succeed only when bridging both industries – whether it’s North vs. South or India vs. Hollywood – and ambitious endeavors often require more time to come to fruition.”
Meanwhile, Atlee recently supported the film ‘Baby John,’ which starred Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Jacky Shroff in pivotal roles. Despite the buzz leading up to its release, the film did not achieve the expected success at the box office. On the other hand, Salman is currently busy with Sajid Nadiadwala’s film ‘Sikandar.’
