Saira Rahman Addresses AR Rahman’s Marital Status: “Please Stop Referring to Me as His Ex-Wife”

Saira Rahman, the estranged spouse of renowned composer AR Rahman, has sent her best wishes for his swift recovery following his hospitalization due to dehydration. She clarified that although they are separated, they are not legally divorced, and she kindly requested the media to stop referring to her as his ex-wife.

AR Rahman, celebrated for his captivating music, was treated at Apollo Hospital in Chennai after displaying symptoms of dehydration. He was discharged after a routine examination. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin also confirmed that Rahman’s condition is stable and expressed relief at the musician’s expected return home soon.

Saira Rahman, who is also on the mend after surgery, extended her prayers and support to Rahman during this challenging time.

In a heartfelt statement released through her legal representation, she expressed, “AR is in my thoughts, and I wish him a speedy recovery. I stand by him as I continue to heal. We are genuinely grateful for the love and support from fans and well-wishers.”

In an accompanying audio message, Saira disclosed that Rahman underwent angioplasty following chest pains. She thanked Allah for his recovery while clarifying their marital status: “It’s important to mention that we are not officially divorced. We are simply separated due to my health issues over the past two years, and I didn’t want to add any strain to his life.”

Saira appealed to Rahman’s family and the public to refrain from putting any pressure on him as he heals. “My thoughts and prayers are always with him. I urge everyone, particularly his family, to ensure he is well taken care of and kept free from stress.”

The couple, who married in 1995, announced their separation in November 2024 after nearly three decades together. They have three children: Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen.
