Saif Ali Khan Attack: Fingerprint Match Results and Identification Parade Completed

Published

on

Recent developments have emerged in the case involving the attack on Saif Ali Khan. The Mumbai police have arrested Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, a Bangladeshi national, in connection with the incident. After an initial issue with fingerprint mismatches, authorities sent additional samples for testing. New reports indicate that some of the prints have matched those of Shehzad, though police are still awaiting a comprehensive report. Furthermore, an identification parade was conducted, confirming the identity of the suspect.

On Thursday, a police representative announced that two staff members from Saif Ali Khan’s residence had recognized Shehzad as the assailant who invaded the actor’s home. This identification followed a formal parade carried out at Arthur Road Jail.

The identification parade was held in the office of the Senior Jailor at Arthur Road Jail, with a Tehsildar present, following court authorization. Nurse Ariyama Philip and caregiver Junu participated in the identification process, as they were present during the attack on the actor.

Previously, on January 31, the Mumbai Police performed a facial recognition test on the accused. They reported, “The test confirmed that the individual in the CCTV footage is indeed Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad.” Despite earlier claims that Shehzad’s fingerprints did not match, Additional Commissioner of Police Paramjit Singh Dahiya dismissed such rumors, asserting, “We have gathered substantial oral, physical, and technical evidence against the accused… We have apprehended the right individual.”

According to the police, the suspect entered Saif Ali Khan’s residence with the intention to commit theft. Charges against him include various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). Authorities believe that Shehzad planned to escape back to Bangladesh but was apprehended at the Hiranandani Estate in Thane.

In the meantime, Shehzad’s attorney, Sandeep Shekhane, has rejected these allegations, claiming that the investigation was improperly conducted. “The court has allowed police custody for five days, and has requested a report within that timeframe. The police have not provided evidence that he is from Bangladesh. They asserted he arrived here six months ago, which is incorrect; he has lived here for over seven years, and his family resides in Mumbai. This amounts to a clear violation of 43A, and a thorough investigation has not been undertaken.”

The alarming incident occurred on January 16, during which Saif Ali Khan sustained six injuries as he struggled with the intruder. Reports from a medical professional indicated that one of his injuries was dangerously close to his spine. According to a complaint filed by the actor’s household staff, the intruder was first spotted in Jeh’s room and demanded Rs 1 crore during the confrontation.
