Mangaluru: The KMC Navachaitanya Yoga Class at Bejai, Mangaluru, celebrated its 22nd anniversary with various programmes.

Dr. Deepak R. Mady, a renowned doctor from KMC Attavar, inaugurated the programme by lighting the traditional lamp.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mady thanked Dr. T. M. A. Pai for his contribution to the establishment of KMC. He said that the institution was founded because of the vision and efforts of Dr. T. M. A. Pai.

Wheelchairs were distributed to Manika of Chetana School and Krishnappa Poojary of Ujire.

Scholarships were presented to Gauri, Kalashree, Likhith and Namrath for successfully completing their SSLC and PU examinations.

Senior members of the yoga class, Usha S. Kumar, Prema S. Adiga and Maya Naik, were honoured during the programme.

The event concluded with a cultural programme presented by the members.

Mangaluru: With continuous rain lashing Dakshina Kannada district, Deputy Commissioner Darshan H.V. has directed all officials to remain on high alert and be fully prepared to handle any rain-related emergencies.

Chairing an online review meeting with officials on Saturday, the Deputy Commissioner said the district is likely to receive more rainfall in the coming days. He instructed all taluk administrations to stay ready and ensure a quick response to any emergency.

He said control rooms must function round the clock and remain available to assist the public at all times.

The Deputy Commissioner noted that incidents of landslides and soil erosion are increasing in the district. He asked officials to closely monitor all identified vulnerable locations.

He also directed officials to shift people living in high-risk areas to safer places if necessary.

As a temporary safety measure, sandbags should be placed at locations where soil erosion is likely. Similar precautionary steps should also be taken on private properties wherever required.

The Deputy Commissioner instructed officials to provide compensation cheques to the families of people who die in natural disasters within 24 hours.

He also said that people shifted to relief centres should be provided with all essential facilities.

Fire and Emergency Services, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been asked to remain ready for emergency operations.

The Deputy Commissioner said no highway blockages have been reported in the district so far. However, officials have been asked to stay prepared for possible landslides or mudslides on major highways, including Charmadi, Sampaje and Shiradi.

He directed officials to keep the required machinery and equipment ready to clear roads without delay if any such incident occurs.

Mangaluru : The Dakshina Kannada District Congress staged a massive protest in Mangaluru on Saturday against Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna over his alleged derogatory remarks against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Congress leaders and party workers gathered near the Gandhi statue in front of the Town Hall. They raised slogans against Yashpal Suvarna and the BJP.

Former minister Ramanath Rai condemned the MLA’s remarks. He said some leaders make such statements to impress senior leaders in the BJP. He added that leadership in the Congress is earned through public service.

Congress spokesperson M.G. Hegde also criticised the BJP. He alleged that the RSS and BJP have been spreading hatred and using trolling to defame Congress leaders.

Youth Congress leader Mithun Rai strongly criticised Yashpal Suvarna. He alleged that the BJP is making continuous attempts to damage Rahul Gandhi’s image. He also made remarks against the BJP during his speech.

During the protest, Congress workers burned an effigy of Yashpal Suvarna as a mark of protest.

District Congress President Harish Kumar, former MLA J.R. Lobo, Inayat Ali, Padmaraj R., Mamatha Gatti, Shashidhar Hegde, and several other Congress leaders and workers were present at the protest.
