Robert Pattinson Addresses ‘Batman 2’ Production Delays with Humor

Published

on

Last year, it was announced that the release of Matt Reeves’ ‘Batman 2’ has been postponed to 2027, pushing it back from its original 2026 release date. The first movie, which premiered in 2022, introduced audiences to Robert Pattinson as Gotham’s iconic hero, and fans have been eagerly awaiting the sequel ever since. With various delays impacting the schedule, the filmmakers are now targeting a 2027 debut. In a recent interview, Pattinson humorously shared his thoughts on the delay, expressing some frustration.

Speaking with Hero Magazine, Pattinson revealed that he was 35 when the first film came out, but by the time ‘Batman 2’ hits theaters, he will be 41. He joked, “I started as young Batman, and I’m going to be f**ing old Batman by the sequel. I’m 38, I’m old, but I’m healthier. I think I’ve brought my biological age down a bit.”

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the sequel’s release, Pattinson is dedicated to maintaining peak physical condition for his role. He even quipped that his strict diet of salmon and avocado has improved his memory. Focusing on his craft, he has been avoiding social outings and adopting a more disciplined routine, which has been beneficial as his recent roles have required heavy memorization.

This is not the first time the return of the Dark Knight has been delayed. Originally, the sequel was slated for a 2025 release, then moved to 2026, and now to 2027. In defense of the postponement, DC’s James Gunn commented on social media that such delays are not uncommon for sequels. He noted, “To be fair, a 5-year gap or more is fairly common in sequels. For example, there were 7 years between ‘Alien’ and ‘Aliens,’ 14 years between ‘The Incredibles,’ and 36 years between ‘Top Gun’ sequels.”

Previously, Reeves indicated that ‘Batman 2’ will explore deeper storylines around corruption that were hinted at in the first film. He stated, “The Batman II is going to delve into an epic tale about deeper corruption, and it explores themes that the first film only touched upon. The groundwork for this story is laid in the first movie, and it will unfold in ways that reveal new aspects of the character.”

The original film featured Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, alongside Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman and Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/Riddler. The cast also included Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell. Recently, a spin-off series titled ‘Penguin’ was launched, which follows the narrative of the DC villain.

In the meantime, fans can anticipate Pattinson starring in ‘Mickey 17,’ set to release on March 7. The sci-fi thriller is directed by Bong Joon Ho, known for acclaimed films such as ‘Parasite’ and ‘Memories of a Murder.’
