Rhea Chakraborty’s Attorney Responds to CBI’s Closure Report in the Sushant Singh Rajput Case
On Saturday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced in its closure report that there was no evidence to suggest that anyone had caused Sushant Singh Rajput to take his own life, and that Rhea Chakraborty and her family have been exonerated.
In response to the filing of the closure report, Rhea’s attorney, Satish Maneshinde, issued a statement saying, “After nearly four years, the CBI has filed a closure report regarding Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. We are appreciative of the CBI for conducting a comprehensive investigation into all aspects of the case and subsequently closing it.”
He added, “The amount of misinformation disseminated on social media and electronic media was completely unwarranted. During the pandemic, people were glued to their screens due to the lack of events in the country, leading to the harassment of innocent individuals who were subjected to media scrutiny and investigations. I hope such a situation does not occur again.”
He urged media professionals to reflect on their actions, acknowledging the suffering that Rhea Chakraborty endured, including spending 27 days in jail without any wrongdoing until Justice Sarang V. Kotwal granted her bail.
“I commend her and her family for their resilience and for enduring the inhumane treatment they faced. They approached me through a close friend, a defense personnel with whom I studied in a Sainik School. Both Rhea’s family and my team faced harassment and threats to our safety, but we remained steadfast in fulfilling our legal responsibilities,” he continued.
The lawyer expressed pride in representing a military family pro bono, emphasizing that the speculations about his fees should not overshadow his dedication.
“I also extend my gratitude to the media members who supported Rhea’s fight for justice. This country remains a safe place for citizens seeking justice, thanks to our dynamic judiciary,” he concluded.
Sushant was discovered hanging in his apartment in Mumbai’s Bandra neighborhood on June 14, 2020.
