Renuka Shahane Explains Why Society Should Stop Judging New Mothers’ Bodies
Gauahar, who is expecting her second child, created this platform to engage in candid conversations about motherhood, parenting, and the often-overlooked challenges women encounter.
In the latest episode, Renuka shared a startling experience from just one day after the birth of her first child. Instead of being celebrated for becoming a mother, a family friend, who also happened to be a visiting doctor, advised her to start losing weight immediately.
“The day after I gave birth, this doctor came to visit and casually told me, ‘Now you must lose weight.’ I was in shock,” Renuka recalled. “I was still processing the life-changing event of becoming a mother, yet here I was, confronted with this strange societal expectation to ‘bounce back’ as if nothing had happened.”
Renuka expressed that one of her primary reasons for getting married was her deep desire to have children, and she feels fortunate to have married Ashutosh Rana, whom she describes as a deeply family-oriented man.
Having married at 35, she prioritized starting a family and always envisioned having at least two children, although the experience proved to be more challenging than she anticipated. “People don’t often share how tough it is,” she reflected. “Motherhood comes with its unique challenges, but the societal pressures make it even harder. There’s an expectation to be the perfect mom while immediately returning to your pre-pregnancy body—it’s overwhelming.”
Renuka’s career is impressive and varied, beginning with her work in Marathi cinema and gaining national fame through the cultural magazine show ‘Surabhi’. Her bright smile made her a beloved figure during the Doordarshan era, and her film career took off with the massive success of ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!’ in 1994.
She continued to captivate audiences in Marathi films, earning accolades for her performance in ‘Aboli’. Expanding her horizons, she ventured into directing with the Marathi film ‘Rita,’ an adaptation of her mother’s novel, followed by her Hindi directorial debut ‘Tribhanga,’ featuring Kajol. Most recently, she appeared in ‘Dupahiya’.
BBK12 : The grand finale of Bigg Boss Kannada Season 12 was held with much excitement and celebration. The popular reality show was hosted by actor Kichcha Sudeep.
Gilli Nata emerged as the winner of the season and lifted the trophy. He won a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh. He also received a brand-new Maruti Suzuki Victoris car as part of the reward.
Rakshita Shetty finished the season as the first runner-up. She impressed viewers with her strong performance throughout the show.
