Ranya Rao’s Bail Application in Gold Smuggling Case Set for Hearing Today

The Bangalore Sessions Court is set to deliver its verdict on actress Ranya Rao’s bail petition in the gold smuggling case this Thursday. Ranya, the main suspect and stepdaughter of senior police officer Ramchandra Rao, was detained on March 3 for allegedly smuggling 14.2 kilograms of gold valued at over Rs 12.56 crores. The court’s decision regarding her bail plea is expected to be announced today.

The prosecution has argued that the actress has confessed to utilizing hawala channels for purchasing the smuggled gold.

Additionally, authorities have issued a notice under Section 108 to prompt a judicial inquiry into Ranya Rao, which may uncover further financial discrepancies.

Tarun Raj, a close associate of Ranya, is also implicated as the second accused in the case and is awaiting the court’s ruling on his bail application, with a decision anticipated on the same day.

In another development, Sahil Jain, a gold merchant, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly aiding in the disposal of the smuggled gold associated with Ranya Rao. He has been taken into police custody for four days to facilitate questioning and ongoing investigation, marking the third arrest in this case.

Previously, counsel Madhu Rao, representing the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at the Special Economic Offences Court, revealed that Tarun and Ranya had made approximately 26 trips to Dubai together. They would typically depart in the morning and return by evening. Notably, Tarun’s journey from Dubai to Hyderabad was booked with a ticket purchased by Ranya, who also received gold from him while in Dubai.

In relation to the ongoing investigation, senior police officer Ramchandra Rao has also faced interrogation regarding the gold smuggling case. On March 15, the Karnataka government placed DGP K. Ramachandra Rao on compulsory leave, effective immediately and until further notice, due to his connection with the gold smuggling investigation.

Ranya Rao allegedly exploited her stepfather’s name to bypass security checks by utilizing the protocols designated for high-ranking officials.

BBK12 : The latest episode of Bigg Boss Super Sunday with Sudeep brought several entertaining moments. One of the highlights was when host Kiccha Sudeep asked Gilli if he would like to write a book about the Bigg Boss contestants. Gilli responded with humour and interesting observations.
