Ranveer Allahbadia Faces Political Backlash Over Offensive Comments; Issues Apology

Published

on

The Mumbai Police have filed a complaint against YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, known as ‘BeerBiceps’, influencer Apoorva Makhija, commonly referred to as ‘Rebel Kid’, and comedian Samay Raina. This action follows their controversial comments during a recent episode of India’s Got Latent, where they allegedly used offensive language that ignited significant political backlash and criticism online. Specifically, Allahbadia has faced harsh scrutiny for his remarks. Mumbai police have initiated an investigation into the situation, with notable political figures, including Devendra Fadnavis, expressing their disapproval. In a particularly shocking moment, Allahbadia posed a startling question to a contestant: “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life, or join in once and stop it forever?” Additionally, he made an inappropriate inquiry regarding the length of the contestant’s anatomy, leaving Raina visibly taken aback, prompting him to respond with disbelief by stating, “What the f***?” and questioning, “Kya ho gaya hai Ranveer bhai ko? (What has happened to Ranveer?).”

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis commented on the matter, expressing his awareness of the situation but noting that he has yet to view the footage. He stated, “Things have been said and presented in a wrong way. Everyone has freedom of speech, but our freedom ends when we infringe upon the rights of others. Society has established certain norms, and violators should face consequences.”

Former Chair of the National Commission for Women (NCW) and Rajya Sabha MP, Rekha Sharma, also voiced her disapproval, stating, “The video is shocking, and such jokes—regardless of gender—are unacceptable. Making light of a mother or a woman’s body is inappropriate and reflects a troubling decline in moral standards among today’s youth. This type of humor negatively impacts those involved in creative fields. I have forwarded the video to the NCW Chairperson for action.”

Congress leader Supriya Shrinate highlighted the disturbing nature of the applause received for these comments, labeling them as perverse rather than creative. “We cannot normalize such behavior as acceptable,” she warned, emphasizing that this kind of response should concern everyone. JMM MP Mahua Maji also demanded accountability, criticizing Allahbadia for making offensive comments despite having recently received an award from Prime Minister Modi. “This feels like a publicity stunt. Such disrespect towards familial relationships is unacceptable,” she remarked.

In light of the backlash, Allahbadia posted an apology video on X, admitting, “What I said on India’s Got Latent was not only inappropriate but also not funny. Comedy is not my strength, and I sincerely apologize for my remarks.”
