Rakesh Roshan Discloses Financial Challenges Surrounding ‘Krrish 4’

Rakesh Roshan’s ‘Krrish’ franchise, fronted by Hrithik Roshan, is a cherished series among fans. With three successful installments already under its belt, the anticipation for ‘Krrish 4’ is at an all-time high. The pressure to elevate the film above its predecessors is significant, and Rakesh Roshan envisions a grand scale for this latest venture, which will necessitate a substantial budget—a challenge that has been troubling the filmmaker.In an interview with Gaana, Rakesh Roshan expressed his frustrations: “We’ve been waiting for many years, but I’m struggling with the budgeting. The scale of the film is large. If I reduce the scope, it feels like an ordinary picture. The world feels smaller now; kids today have viewed so many superhero films that they’ll criticize even the slightest flaw.”

Rakesh Roshan also drew comparisons to Hollywood’s superhero franchises like Marvel and DC, pointing out, “We have to tread carefully. We can’t match the scale of those films (Marvel, DC). We simply don’t have the budget. Our available funds compel us to focus more on the story. While there will be impressive sequences in the film, if there aren’t ten, then there may only be two or three.”

In a prior interview with India Today, Rakesh noted that ‘Krrish 4’ aims to be the largest film in the franchise, yet budgeting remains a pressing concern. He remarked, “The audience hasn’t fully returned to theatres, which raises a big question for me. Krrish is set to be a major film, but children today are accustomed to Hollywood superhero movies that cost between 500 and 600 million dollars, while we’re working with a much smaller budget of around Rs 200 to 300 crore.”

The franchise began with the 2003 film ‘Koi Mil Gaya,’ featuring Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta. This was followed by ‘Krrish’ in 2006, again starring Hrithik alongside Priyanka Chopra, and the third installment, ‘Krrish 3,’ which included Kangana Ranaut alongside Hrithik and Priyanka.
