Rahul Advocates for the Empowerment of Dalits, Tribals, and Backward Classes

On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, intensified his political efforts aimed at empowering Dalits, tribals, and backward classes in society. He highlighted the contradiction of having representation without genuine power. Speaking at an event commemorating the birth anniversary of Dalit icon Jaglal Chaudhary in Patna, Rahul pointed out that while India’s backward classes may have political representation, it has not translated into actual power in their hands.

He reiterated his call to protect the Constitution of India, arguing that it is the only framework that can provide true representation for backward classes. He expressed concern that the BJP and RSS aim to alter the Constitution for their own purposes.

Citing Rohith Vemula, he noted that although RSS leaders may pay homage to Ambedkar, they fail to honor the principles for which he fought. “They will deceive you with subtlety,” he warned.

Rahul asserted that the current political climate under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has further eroded the representation of Dalits, tribals, and backward classes. However, he promised that this would not continue, vowing that these communities would receive a share of power proportional to their population. To achieve this, he advocated for a nationwide caste survey, the creation of policies based on the findings, and a committed implementation to uplift these communities. He referenced the state of Telangana as an example of effective action.

These topics were also addressed during the ‘Save Constitution Conclave’ held in Patna on January 18, sparking important discussions on social justice issues.
