Punjab: Gangster Wounded in Retaliatory Gunfire While Attempting to Escape Police Custody; Firearm Seized
Authorities stated that Maxi, originally from Rodala village in Rajasansi Amritsar, is linked to foreign-based terrorist Goldy Brar and gangster Goldy Dhillon, operating an extortion racket on their behalf. Maxi and his associate, Sandeep alias Deep, were recently apprehended by the Patiala Police in an Arms Act case. On Friday, they were brought to SAS Nagar Police on a production warrant related to an extortion case, wherein they targeted a Mohali-based property dealer demanding Rs 50 lakh in January 2025.
DGP Gaurav Yadav mentioned that following information provided by Maxi, a police team led by DSP Dera Bassi Bikramjit Singh Brar was transporting him to recover a .32 caliber pistol that he admitted to hiding in a secluded area along the Zirakpur-Ambala Highway, intending to harm the targeted property dealer.
“Upon arrival at the site, the accused opened fire at the police team in a bid to escape. In response, the police team acted in self-defense, resulting in Maxi sustaining a gunshot wound to his left leg. He has since been taken to Civil Hospital, Mohali for medical care,” the DGP stated.
According to Yadav, the police recovered the weapon, along with three cartridges and two spent casings, from Maxi’s possession. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) SAS Nagar, Deepak Pareek, further elaborated that the arrested individual has a criminal record, with cases related to extortion and the Arms Act registered against him. Ongoing investigations are continuing.
A new FIR, numbered 46 and dated 01/03/2025, has been filed under Sections 109, 132, 221, and 262 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 25 of the Arms Act at the Dera Bassi Police Station in SAS Nagar.
