This interesting tidbit was shared by her mother, Dr. Madhu Chopra, in a recent interview with Lehren Retro.

Long before Priyanka became a recognized name in Bollywood and Hollywood, she was simply a young girl with big dreams from a middle-class family in India. Despite entering the dazzling world of beauty contests at an early age, Priyanka remained true to her principles regarding her comfort levels.

In the interview, Dr. Madhu Chopra recounted how, during the Miss World 2000 competition, the organizers requested that Priyanka wear a two-piece swimsuit for the swimwear segment. Priyanka gracefully declined.

“Priyanka’s behavior has always been commendable,” said Madhu. “When they asked her to wear a two-piece, she simply said, ‘No.’ There were no tantrums or drama—she stood her ground with dignity.”
The organizers honored Priyanka’s choice, which did not hinder her journey; instead, it enhanced the respect she garnered. That same year, Priyanka won the prestigious Miss World title, becoming the fifth Indian woman to achieve this honor.
However, her path to the crown wasn’t without challenges. She was the runner-up at the Femina Miss India 2000 contest, losing to Lara Dutta, who went on to be crowned Miss Universe that same year. But destiny had its own plans. Representing India on the global stage, Priyanka’s confidence, intellect, and charm captivated audiences—and ultimately earned her the crown.
Two years later, she made her acting debut with the Tamil film ‘Thamizhan’ before entering Bollywood with ‘The Hero: Love Story of a Spy.’ The rest, as they say, is history.
