Pregnant Bangladeshi woman ran From JJ Hospital
Mumbai: A pregnant Bangladeshi woman lodged in Byculla Women’s Jail escaped from JJ Hospital on Thursday afternoon, raising serious concerns over prisoner security arrangements in the city. Following her escape, Mumbai Police has launched an extensive search operation.
The woman, Rubina Irshad Sheikh (25), had been arrested by Vashi Police on August 7 for securing an Indian passport using a forged birth certificate. She was booked under multiple provisions of the Indian Penal Code, the Passport Act, and the Foreigners Act, and later remanded to jail.
On August 11, Rubina was shifted to JJ Hospital after she complained of fever, cold, and a skin infection, apart from undergoing medical checks related to her five-month pregnancy. However, on the afternoon of August 14, she managed to break free by shoving a constable and blending into the hospital crowd before fleeing.
Police officials confirmed that search operations have been intensified across the city to track her down. The incident has sparked criticism over lax security measures during prisoner transfers to hospitals.
