Prayagraj DM Confirms No Extension for Mahakumbh Fair

on

Recent social media speculation about extending the Mahakumbh fair until March to accommodate increased crowds has been firmly dismissed by Prayagraj District Magistrate Ravindra Mandar, who termed the claims as unfounded. He clarified that the Mahakumbh operates on a set schedule aligned with auspicious timings, confirming that the fair will conclude as originally planned on February 26. The administration is dedicated to ensuring a smooth experience for devotees until the event wraps up.

Addressing the issue of misinformation, the DM reiterated on Tuesday that, under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, all necessary arrangements for the convenience of devotees are being closely supervised.

He advised the public not to trust false reports, as neither the government nor the administration has proposed an extension of the fair. He also assured that adequate facilities for bathing at Sangam and for the return travel of devotees will be in place. “Traffic management is a top priority, ensuring that the flow of devotees does not disrupt daily life in Prayagraj,” he stated.

In response to rumors regarding railway station closures, the DM clarified, “No station has been closed without prior notice.” He explained that the Prayag Sangam station in Daraganj, located near the fairgrounds, has been permanently closed to alleviate overcrowding, with similar measures implemented on peak days. However, all other stations are operational and support smooth travel for pilgrims.

Emphasizing the fair’s successful implementation, the DM referred to it as a historic event for both the government and the district administration. He reassured that no student has missed their board examination due to the fair. “Authorities had previously advised students and parents to arrive at examination centers early, and this guidance has been effectively followed. Additionally, CBSE and ICSE boards have promised that students missing an exam will be given another chance at the end of the examination cycle,” he added.

The administration remains committed to maintaining order and ensuring a safe and well-organized Mahakumbh experience for all devotees.
