Sullia: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) team has arrested the 21st accused in the BJP youth leader Praveen Nettaru murder case. The accused, identified as Atheeq Ahmed, had allegedly provided shelter and assistance to Mustafa Paichar, the mastermind behind the murder, who is associated with the leadership of the Popular Front of India (PFI).

During the investigation, it was revealed that Mustafa Paichar, under the PFI agenda, had planned and executed the murder of Praveen Nettaru to instigate fear and communal clashes. After the murder, Mustafa went into hiding, and Atheeq Ahmed helped him by sending him to Chennai, among other forms of assistance.

It has been discovered that Atheeq Ahmed continued to assist Mustafa until his arrest in May 2024. Praveen was killed by assailants in August 2022. Initially, the case was registered at the Bellare Police Station, and later, the NIA took over the investigation.

The NIA uncovered that the PFI had created secret teams called “PFI service squads” and provided them with weapons and surveillance training to carry out targeted killings. The search for the remaining six accused in the Praveen Nettaru murder case continues, as per the NIA.
