Actor Prateik Babbar has officially adopted his mother’s surname, now going by Prateik Smita Patil. This change comes on the heels of his recent marriage to Priya Banerjee, which was marked by an intimate ceremony on February 14, 2025, at his late mother Smita Patil’s residence in Mumbai. Notably, Prateik’s father, Raj Babbar, and other Babbar family members were absent, leading to speculation about a rift within the family.

During an interview with Times of India, when asked about his father’s absence from the wedding, Priya swiftly sidestepped the question, stating, “No, absolutely not. We don’t want to talk about it. Our feelings on this are private, and it’s already discussed extensively online. People can revisit past articles to understand the context before making comments that could overshadow a special day. Prateik and I choose silence out of respect and dignity. We’re simply happy and prefer not to delve into this.”

When the conversation shifted to whether Prateik’s relationship with his family would evolve, Priya remarked, “There’s nothing to change; there was never anything substantial to begin with. It baffles me when people say, ‘You did this to somebody.’ That family was never present in his life, so I question why this topic is being raised now, years later.”

She continued, “Some individuals gain attention by discussing others. We don’t need to listen to that or justify our choices to anyone; we just want to focus on our happiness and live our lives.”

Although Prateik was hesitant to discuss his name change, he suggested he might share his feelings on the matter in the future when he feels ready. He expressed that adopting the name Prateik Smita Patil felt right for his spirit and brought him joy.
