“Police behaving like goons under government pressure: B.Y. Vijayendra”
Mangaluru: In Dakshina Kannada district, the police are behaving like goons under pressure from the state government, and we will never tolerate this, said Karnataka BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra. He demanded that the police immediately stop such actions.
Speaking at a press conference at the BJP office after visiting the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Police Commissioner, and party workers on Monday, Vijayendra alleged that ever since the new Superintendent of Police and Police Commissioner took charge in Dakshina Kannada district, the police have been knocking on the doors of BJP, VHP, and Bajrang Dal workers’ homes at midnight and acting in a goon-like manner.
He accused the police of acting under the influence of the state government and demanded that such actions be immediately stopped. Otherwise, he warned, there would be a protest against the police.
Vijayendra further stated that although the BJP had demanded the state government hand over the investigation of the Suhas Shetty murder case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), no action was taken. As a result, they met with the Governor and submitted a request to the central government. The central government has agreed to the demand, and he welcomed Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s decision in this regard.
Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly R. Ashoka, former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Aravind Bellad, V. Sunil Kumar, N. Ravi Kumar, C.T. Ravi, and MP Brijesh Chowta were present at the press meet.
